So this can power homes for up to two hours. Then what? What are the costs? How much power is lost in the course of charging and discharging the batteries? Effect on ratepayers and taxpayers? How clean/dirty are batteries across their life cycle? How long do the batteries last? Battery disposal? If there are ever huge numbers of batteries being charged during off-peak hours, will those hours still be off-peak?
Maine policymakers want to encourage such projects as…

"Across half a century of forecasts, the apocalypse is always around 20 years out."
For climate true believers, however, offset markets are a sham and no substitute for genuine emissions cuts. In his September 2020 RealClear Energy essay on an “Ecotopian” Future, Joel Kotkin warned that green funders from Wall Street,…

FARMINGTON – Franklin County may need to repay about $469,000 to the state because the owner of the 44-wind turbine facility in Kibby and Skinner townships was successful in its effort to get a tax abatement, county Clerk Julie Magoon told commissioners Tuesday.
Magoon said she received a call Tuesday from Lisa Whynot, deputy director of the Maine Property Tax Division, before the county commissioners’ meeting informing her of the need to repay state. There are still a lot of moving…

Undersea cable survey marks milestone in Maine’s offshore wind quest

And to think that the Maine wind industry, the Maine environmental groups and the Maine media had the brass to tell us the ratepayer-funded $1.5 billion CMP upgrade (MPRP) was due to aging lines and population growth, when in fact it was pure ratepayer robbery for the wind developers who were stuck without the new transmission. Where was the so called "Public Advocate"?

Maine’s ambitious goal of cutting carbon out of its economy by the mid-21st…

Following is a fairly incredible revelation, i.e., that in essence, the $1.4 billion MPRP (Maine Power Reliability Program, aka, the "CMP upgrade") was built, after all, for wind and solar.
From the BDN:…

Blame a perfect storm of bad government policies, timing and weather. Coal and nuclear are the most reliable sources of power. But competition from heavily subsidized wind power and inexpensive natural gas, combined with stricter emissions regulation, has caused coal’s share of Texas’s electricity to plunge by more than half in a decade to 18%. Wind’s share has tripled to about 25% since 2010 and accounted for 42% of power last week before the freeze set in. About half of Texans rely on…

Since 2017, renewables advocates have argued that offshore wind power is now very cheap. However, closer examination of their claims reveals a different story.
As the report’s author Andrew Montford explains:
“In fact, if you read the small print, renewables advocates are only saying that windfarms coming on stream after 2018 will be cheap. But we now know this is not…
