Wind Power Bandwagon Hits Bumps in the Road

WRITTEN BY NAOMI SCHALIT SENIOR REPORTER MAINE CENTER FOR PUBLIC INTEREST REPORTING

FRIDAY, AUGUST 06, 2010 AT 8:38 AM

AUGUSTA — The Wind Energy Act of 2008, which gave developers a fast track to putting up wind turbines in some of the state’s treasured high ground, was a special interest bill justified at the time in the name of jobs, energy independence and climate change.

Natural Gas............Good to go for America's electrical needs

By BEN CASSELMAN

CADDO PARISH, La. -- A massive natural-gas discovery here in northern Louisiana heralds a big shift in the nation's energy landscape. After an era of declining production, the U.S. is now swimming in natural gas.

Even conservative estimates suggest the Louisiana discovery -- known as the Haynesville Shale, for the dense rock formation that contains the gas -- could hold some 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That's the equivalent of 33 billion… Continue

CMP Upgrade for Massachusetts, Not Maine

CMP has told Mainers that the MPRP upgrade is needed because our power lines are 40 years old. But we know the real reason is so that spurting wind, however intermittent, require new lines to prevent thermal overload. Below it states that the benefit of this project is for interstate transport of electricity. What that means is that the ratepayer is being forced to pay for new transmission, without which, the already subsidized wind companies would not have a way to sell their…

lawsuits

does anyone know how many lawsiuts, to date, are against the towns with wind turbines in place?

Lincoln

Mars Hill

Vinal Haven

(Roxbury)

It seems the only way to stop our town fathers from blundering is to show the tax payers how much these lawsuits will cost them.

The Jig is Up

What the AWEA wants is the government to make us buy their wind electricity -- at high prices. And make us pay for massively expensive, unsightly and otherwise wholly unnecessary new transmission lines so that Mainers and southern New Englanders can but this expensive electricity. Skyrocketing electricity prices coming from statewide industrial turbine and transmission blight that is…

CMP Bulking Up For Baldacci's Wind Sprawl Scam

When this project was sold in, it was largely about 40 year old power lines. Wind was very downplayed. Now they are telling the truth, almost as if to create the impression this is the reason that had been given all along, when in fact, the primary reason they gave was the lie about 40 year old power lines.
It's high time Mainers learned about this $1.4 billion "hidden" extra cost to wind power. We are BROKE.…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
