Windfall

I would like to recomend the independent film  "Windfall" Produced by Laura Isreal

 http://windfallthemovie.com/index_1.html

I believe what is highlighted in the film is the covert way that wind developers operate.  Targetting elected officials with large tracts of land, ignoring the majority of people who will have to live in the shadows of turbines owned by utility companies and billionaire investors.

UMPI website not working - but the turbine was turning this afternoon!

I was at UMPI this afternoon ( Sunday November 13) for a rehearsal. The turbine was actually turning - but no data was posted on the website, which has the same old zeroes and the statement: "Last weekend......primary months" that has been posted for 208 continuous days.

Maybe it is working, or maybe it is just coasting in neutral, or maybe it is using grid energy to turn itself  - it is a mystery, and the website tells us nothing.

AWA Goodhue

http://windenergy.areavoices.com

Just days before the final PUC siting hearing Goodhue Wind AWA posted environmental studies that they conducted.  These studies find that American Bald Eagles and Loggerhead Shrikes exist throughout the project area.  Their conclusions that their project will not adversely affect these protected avian species are questionable.  Their speculation that since Loggerhead Shrikes fly low…

For University personnel to simply look the other way is very, very wrong

November 12, 2011

From the UMPI website. When will the University do its job and report on the undebelly of the slick wind hype machine and help save Maine and Mainers from this Enron-inspired scam? When the University research is not fairly assessed and broadcasted, it is essentially scandalous.

Time to declare this sole state experiment into onshore wind power the outright failure it is and pronounce all wind industry claims going forward guilty before proven…

Telling it Like it Is

Let’s be honest, the Maine Citizens for Clean Energy initiative is all about forcing mountaintop wind power on Maine. The coalition is not a citizens group but a collaboration of Maine’s wind development lobbyists in disguise. It’s bad enough that the NRCM has chosen to mire itself deeper into its commitment to mountaintop wind development — even more so that it is teaming with corporate wind development interests whose singular goal is to turn mountaintops into cash.

The parties to…

Taming Unruly Wind Power, New York Times, November 4, 2011

So, here we go, into the strange new world where sometimes, when the wind blows just right, all those hundreds or thousands of usually unproductive turbines in an area spring to life and a huge surge of wind energy goes to the grid.  This article below is from the New York Times.  I have done some highlights in red.  Wind power meets overbuilding capacity meets Big Brother.

Governor LePage says push for wind and solar power will require state subsidies

The following is excerpted from an article in today's Portland Press-Herald.

While he is continuing to focus on welfare reform, LePage said he will also look to make changes in education, the economy and energy.

He discouraged people from signing a petition that is likely to be found at polling places on Tuesday that would require Maine's utilities to get 20 percent of their power from renewable…

LEGISLATIVE ALERT: The Fitts Amendment - Your Input is Essential

Each January the Governor's Office of Energy  and Security reports to the legislature on the State's progress in achieving the goals of the Expedited Wind Law - 2007  S.661.   This year the legislature required the GOES to expand its review to include the following,  otherwise known as the "Fitts Amendment" to LD 1366.

Public input will be essential to counteract the pro-wind bias that is contained in this amendment.…

JOIN OUR EUROPEAN ALLIES AND CALL FOR AN END TO SUBSIDIES FOR WIND POWER

Folks,

It is time to join our friends in Europe (see below) and demand and end to the subsidies for wind power. The federal government is using stimulus funds, increasing the deficit, to finance wind projects. We are borrowing money from China to subsidize the destruction of Maine's landscape, and then using the money to pay wind developers so they can buy turbines from China or other foreign countries. Our children and grandchildren are on the hook for repayment of this… Continue

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
