Medway to Oakfield: First Wind Targets Every Ridge Within Sight of Mt. Katahdin

You MUST READ this piece posted from Maineenvironews.com  By responding to Connecticut's call for PPA proposals, First Wind has tipped it hand about its intentions.  The 57 mile long transmission line from Oakfield to Mattawamkeag opens up ridge after ridge in the shadow of Mt. Katahdin for behemoth wind machines.  Thoreau and Gov. Baxter must be spinning in their graves!  We…

Maine Way Life Should Be ???

Where is the Maine Department of Tourism on wind turbines???

The head of the department must be hiding under his desk.

Poor sole, doesn't know whether to speak his or her true feelings

for fear of losing their job.

Are they going to promote Maine's ugly wind turbines for tourism???

Perhaps they should tear down that sign that I love to see when

going back to Maine. The new one might read "Welcome To Maine Visit Our

In the Shadow of Katahdin: MEDWAY - "Some big land owner from Mass or Connecticut who doesn't want their identity known"

Here's a head's up as to another First Wind project, "Molunkus" - this one somewhere near Medway in the shadow of Katahdin.
By the way, a few years ago in that general area right to the east of the East Branch of the Penobscot off the Grindstone Road there was a devastating clear cut. Never saw anything like it. When people tried to find out who the landowner was that allowed this…

FROM OUR  FRIENDS  AT  WINDACTION.ORG WE  HAVE  LEARNED THAT: RECENT CHANGES TO  CONNECTICUT RPS  NOW REQUIRE THAT 4 % DEMAND BE  MET WITH LONG TERM POWER  PURCHASE  AGREEMENTS ( PPA) FOR CLASS 1 RENEWABLES (WIND  AND SOLAR )
1) The CT RFP is a very public process since the State is the entity that's selecting and negotiating the contracts. This is in contrast to a near identical RFP issued in MA that is being…

STEEEE-RIKE TWO! For the Bowers Project!

This afternoon DEP Commissioner Patricia Aho signed the final denial document for First Wind's planned Bowers Mountain Wind Project in Carroll Plt and Kossuth Twp.

I have not read the entire decision document but at a glance it appears very similar to the draft that was circulated last week.  Of course First Wind has the right to appeal to BEP and…

The Great Wind Energy Bait and Switch

The Great Wind Energy Bait and Switch is a scenario that should have been avoided.

Ratepayers have been assured by the industry that wind energy is a reliable energy

source that would reduce electricity costs, and these promises were parroted by our

policy makers. Only after spending billions of public dollars on wind, we are being

informed by the beneficiaries of our largess,…

PPH - N.H. utility to end renewable energy rate program

N.H. utility to end renewable energy rate program

Other utilities face similar situations if not enough customers sign up to pay higher rates to support renewable sources.

The company says it would take just 1 percent of its total customers signing up to keep the program alive, but after two years, only 148 customers were enrolled, or about .04 percent.

Potential rusting derelict wind turbines will be no wind advocate's fault

Frary: Adventurous Investments

EXCERPT:

Confident predictions about our energy future may be foolish, but I will make one prediction with absolute certainty. If those thousands of wind-power projects end as rusting derelicts no politician or advocate who supported them will suffer for it; no one will be held accountable. Politically motivated investments are the most risk-free ventures known to…

Bill Gates Tries Thorium

BillGates2012

Bill Gates chairs a company called TerraPower that is keen on taking nuclear power technology into the 21st century. The company primarily focuses on a so-called fast reactor that would produce nuclear waste with relatively low toxicity and a much shorter lifetime. But it’s also making inroads on a type of nuclear power with…

William Chapman: “Renewable” energy is the current buzzword for ruining our mountains and devastating the wildlife (BDN)

Restore mountaintops

It is interesting that after more than a century of damming our rivers for hydropower, we are now restoring these rivers. The removal of the Veazie dam is just one example of the efforts now being made so fish can once again swim upstream to spawn.

More than a century ago, when these dams were…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
