The gov’s well-paid wind-power liars

The New York State Energy Research Development Authority really doesn’t want you to know how much you’ll have to pay for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s offshore-wind boondoggles.

Our recent editorial on this waste cited the Empire Center’s Ken Girardin, who’d found used the agency’s own public filings to deduce a cost to electric ratepayers statewide of some $6 billion for just the first wave of wind farms NYSERDA is subsidizing off the Long Island coast, vs. the ageny’s…

State approves power-purchase contract with UMaine wind project

The 20-year agreement requires CMP to buy electricity from an experimental floating wind turbine off the Maine coast.

Maine regulators approved a power contract with the experimental offshore wind project led by the University of Maine, an essential next step in the project’s development.

The 20-year power-purchase agreement requires Central Maine Power to buy electricity produced by a floating wind power project built by a partnership between the Maine Aqua Ventus consortium…

Sale of Hancock County wind farm project puts it on fast track toward completion

A Canadian investment firm has acquired the roughly $150 million Weaver Wind project in Hancock County and intends to begin installing turbines on the state’s newest wind farm in February.

The land-based wind farm project, which has been in planning stages for five years, is scheduled to be up and running by October 2020. It will comprise 22 turbines and is expected to produce 72.6 megawatts of wind energy, enough to power 15,000 to 20,000 Maine homes annually. The…

UMaine Revisits Offshore Wind Approach - Follows Feds Telling Industry to Go Back to Square One

Bowling for subsidies continued. So long as there is an endless supply of ratepayers who have been hoodwinked by the media to believe wind power is a viable and necessary electricity source, there will be an endless supply of hucksters looking to take advantage. Why is nuclear power almost never mentioned by the media? Why are the true costs of wind power almost never mentioned by the media? Did a university ever see an opportunity for grant money it didn't like?

Note that the…

PPH - Energy efficiency remains the improbable dream

Politicians like to envision a shiny future of solar and wind and electric cars...........................

Maine has roughly 500,000 homes. And while some are newer and energy-efficient, most aren’t. Upgrading them will take time and money – and at the current pace, many decades.

That timetable could be accelerated, if weatherization becomes a priority for the new…

Having taken over $100 Billion in subsidies, U.S. wind industry demands more after promising they'd need no more

Is it possible that our lawmakers could be so stupid as to believe every lie from the wind industry since the introduction of the PTC in 1992 when they first said "Just this one time"? Since that time the wind crooks have incessantly said "Just this one more time". That is junkie speak. Be outraged and let your congresspersons know you demand an end to this rigged game for the insider class. The middle class would like to see this money itself. The insider class has robbed us…

Lance Tapley: Is Mills for Real on Climate Change?

.......Gov. Janet Mills got a lot of attention when she stood before the United Nations General Assembly’s Climate Action Summit on September 23 and announced she had signed an executive order pledging Maine to become “carbon neutral” by 2045.

Problem is, it’s too easy a goal to achieve. We’re either close to it or already there. That’s because of our vast forest, which covers 89 percent of the state. The…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
