Did UMPI get a new wind turbine or upgrade which somehow escaped the Maine media?

RRB Energy Ltd.PS-600 wind turbine has been upgraded to a Vestas 47??? If so, what was the cost? What was the funding source? How much has been spent to date on this turbine since it was conceived? Does "upgraded to a Vestas 47" mean the nacelle has been replaced? If the turbine (presumably at least the nacelle???) has been replaced, what happened to the old one? How much did UMPI get for this? Has ANY news about The UM's possible purchase of a new wind turbine or component been reported in…

Spain Scuttles Clean-Energy Subsidies; Promptly Watches The Industry Go Down Like A Sinking Ship

Serious question, greenies: is a nation justified in completely running its economy into the ground, with all of the hardship and heartache that ensues, if it’s all for the sake of instilling the populace with what the government deems necessary environmental virtue?

This article is old, but still tells the story. This is the best hope we have for…

Maine Clean Power Connection could include wind power

Central Maine Power wants to build the corridor to move hydro power from Quebec to Massachusetts......

Somerset County Commissioners, along with local state senators and representatives, previously issued a resolution strongly opposing additional wind turbines in the county. But CMP’s John Carroll, who attended Wednesday’s county commissioners’ meeting but did not speak, has said the transmission line project is for hydro power, not…

Maine's Quality of Place and Tourism - One More Reason to Protect from Industrial Wind Blight

We'll need more than just expanded tourism. People simply don't vacation enough for tourism alone to save Maine. However, we can certainly expand our tourism - there is plenty of potential for this. To do so, above all we must protect Maine's vaunted "quality of place", that which Governor Baldacci always talked up - before he started destroying it with industrial wind projects and transmission lines.

America’s forgotten towns: Can they…

‘Electrification’: The Road to Higher Energy Prices

Actual costs of wind and solar systems tend to be hidden from the public, but when disclosed, can be hideously expensive..........the Deepwater Wind Block Island project of Rhode Island takes first prize for outrageous renewable electricity cost. The five-turbine offshore system went into operation in 2016 at a contracted price of 23.6 cents per kW-hr, with an annual…

Lisa Linowes: New Uncertainties for Big Wind

Despite Congress’ decision to leave the wind PTC phase-out unchanged in the final tax bill, other changes in the law might upset plans for some projects.

Wind projects most at risk by the new tax bill are those that negotiated their finance package in the last two years based on a 35 precent corporate tax rate. Renegotiating these agreements, if possible, could result in higher debt assumed for the project, higher prices for the electricity sold (PPAs), and pressure to lower build…

PPH - Massachusetts is expected to decide this month among the dozens of proposals

In 2016, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a law requiring the state to solicit contracts for 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy, including hydropower, onshore wind and solar power, along with at least 1,600 megawatts of offshore wind energy.

Maine versus Massachusetts in 2018

Whether one believes in man made global warming or what one may believe may be the extent of man made global warming, a couple of things are certain:

1. Fighting climate change was a strong rationale for the Maine expedited wind law which is resulting in widespread wind industrialization throughout Maine. Industrialization which never would have or should have been permitted.

2. Massachusetts is requiring its ratepayers to use a large percentage of renewable energy and may be…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/

Hannah Pingree on the Maine expedited wind law
