BDN Plays Down The Effect of Maine's Expedited Wind Law

The BDN writes that in SOME cases Baldacci's expedited wind law has boosted wind generation. The fact is that this law has had a tremendous effect on the proliferation of wind factories in Maine. Although the article attempts to be wide in scope, explaining the Governor's work on energy, it ignores many, many factors. For example, every citizen initiated attempt to protect Mainers from wind proliferation was stonewalled by a wind industry controlled EUT…

Portland is fine with wind turbine noise in Aroostook, but won't tolerate noise in Portland

We should add that Portland is at least consistent in protecting its residents from noise - a city ordinance essentially banned industrial wind turbines over five years ago. Now if they'd only think of their fellow Mainers outside of Portland and help repeal the heinous expedited wind law, given to us by former Governor Baldacci and his wind industry friends. By the way, Baldacci said in a radio interview yesterday, he'd…

Grid Reliability: DOE Throws Down Red Flags On Unreliable Wind And Solar (Forbes)

What’s notable about the report is the absence of a monomaniacal advocacy for renewables, combined with a sober description of grid engineering and physics. That tone, by itself, is a sea change.........And for discerning policymakers, the key takeaway from the report amounts to a go-slow for those eager to rapidly force far more VRE on the grid – VRE, variable renewable energy, is DOE’s euphemism for solar and wind.........We also find DOE saying that when it comes to…

DOE Grid Study: Green energy industries DO pose a significant threat to the U.S. electrical grid

"Solar and wind power, alongside natural gas, have made the grid much more complex and less resilient.........The agency’s findings run contrary to a report from unnamed sources earlier this month that suggested green energy industries do not pose a significant threat to the U.S. electrical grid.......The DOE’s study comes after Perry said in early April that he and international counterparts discussed the need for a diverse supply of electricity during a G-7 Energy Ministerial meeting in…

Dudley Gray: Will Maine ever smarten up and stop the abomination of wind?

The continuing destruction of Maine's pristine ridges and mountaintops for the benefit of politicians and foreign corporations must end. There is no need for Maine to be a conduit for the delivery of electricity to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Let them build their wind turbines in the Berkshires and leave Maine alone........................

More than 100 people ask if Mass energy policy will destroy Moosehead Lake region

ROCKWOOD STRIP — More than 100 people packed the Rockwood Community Center Wednesday afternoon to help answer the question raised by a group opposed to proposed wind farms — will Massachusetts energy policy destroy the Moosehead Lake region.

The answer for many was loud and clear: “Save our mountains — No Wind Farms.”…

PPH - New CMP bills foreshadow increased consumer involvement

When the supply can't be depended upon as it can with a source like natural gas, an alternate way to match up supply and demand is to control the demand. Enter the smart meter.

"A smart grid would allow the integration of variable energy sources like wind and solar. For example, if electricity output dropped suddenly due to a change in wind generation, the grid could dim the lights in big box stores…

REASON - Politicians Can't Get Enough Energy Cronyism

Despite the breadth of the current political divide, it appears that there is at least one thing that all politicians can agree upon: energy sector cronyism. The only real dispute is over the preferred beneficiaries.......

A recent report published by the Center for Freedom and Prosperity, called "Russia's Ties to U.S. Environmentalist Groups," lays out how Putin cronies bundled millions for radical left-wing environmental groups determined to stop oil and natural gas development in…

Patrick Woodcock, Former Maine Energy Head Now Asst Sec of Energy in Massachusetts

I don't believe this was ever reported by the Maine media, just like they never reported that Ex-Gov John Baldacci, the creator of Maine's pro-wind industry expedited wind law of 2008 became vice-chair of Avangrid (Iberdrola/CMP) back in December 2015. Avangrid is the nation's second largest wind company.

Why will the Maine media publish an article about a wind company hosting a hot dog cookout…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
