Having reviewed the Dixmont Wind Ordinance, I am particularly curious with their decommissioning and site restoration plan:
(1) The plan shall provide for the removal from the Project Parcels, and lawful disposal or disposition of, all Wind Turbines and other structures, hazardous materials, electrical facilities, and all foundations. The plan shall provide for the removal of all access roads. The plan shall provide for the restoration of the Project Parcels to a condition similar to that…

From NBC's Ali Weinberg
Even as major climate change legislation moves through Congress, fewer voters believe global warming is a very serious problem -- or even think there is solid evidence of it -- a new Pew Research survey finds. And action on the environment has slipped even further down voters' lists of policy priorities for the president, although a majority would not oppose regulations limiting carbon emissions.
According to the poll, 35% of respondents said global…

Many talk about loving "green" energy. But when it comes to paying for it, they don't necessarily walk the walk. In Massachusetts, which likes to boast that it is one of the "greenest" states in the nation, less than 1% of people are willing to pay more for "green" energy. This was in the Boston Globe on January 20 and comes from the CEO of one of Massachusetts' largest utilities, NStar. Please see:…

The following is excerpted from a citizen's testimony given on 11/24/08 at the PUC Public Witness Hearing in Lewiston regarding the so called Maine Power Reliability Program Consisting of the Construction of Approximately 350 Miles of 34.5 kV and 115 kV Transmission Lines (MPRP). I found it quite invigorating to read. It sure sounds familiar.
I'm part of an organization called Clark Mountain Sanctuary which is a conservation organization that's an abutter to the power line…

Maine cedes the Northeast to First Wind
New State to Be Known as Firstwindiana
March 15, 2010 Augusta, Maine. Maine Governor Baldacci signed a historic measure today ceding a huge portion of northeastern Maine to First Wind Holdings. The law, passed as "Emergency" Legislation by the Maine 124th Legislature, creates the new state of Firstwindiana and cements Baldacci's legacy as one of the biggest buffoons to ever occupy the Blaine Mansion.
"This historic bill…

If your town is preparing to bring in an acoustic engineer to discuss wind turbine noise. There are two that have previously made such presentations:
Ken Kaliski of Vermont. Pro- wind, spoke in Oakfield
Robert Rand of Brunswick, our favored man, spoke in Dixmont

Alas, the slick tricks of politics. There’s no place else like the isolated world of government, where a simple proposition becomes warped into the absurd.
The proposition asked: Do you want wind farms upon the mountaintops in your town ? How many of us are expecting our day to vote on this is forthcoming ?
Well, the day of decision is coming, but I challenge you to understand what you’re being asked to vote on, or to even know if you are voting for or against wind farms.
A wind…

Hello everybody - I have been monitoring UMPI's windmill internet website for weeks., hoping for the information that was so lavishly promised in the publicity that preceeded its construction.
(
www.umpi.edu/wind, or Google)
Except for the constantly updated information on current weather, everything I can find on that website is dated November 2008 or earlier.
I think it's past time for UMPI to start sharing with the public lts of…

I have a number of copies of dvd format containing the proceedings of the wind forum which took place in Dixfield, November 6 2009. Speakers included Steve Thurston, Dr. Albert Aniel, Tom Powell and Tom Carroll of Patriots Renewables. This is a good resource of information. Anyone near Dixfield who is interesting in borrowing a copy can contact me at mckaydan2@gmail.com and I will either deliver or send it to you.
I would also commend everyone who is a member of the Citizen's Task Force on…

Folks, if you haven't seen it in all the activity on our site, you simply must read Brian's description of how Oakfield is being bamboozled by First Wind. Every Maine town, even if they are Pro-Wind, needs to have at least a moratorium in place asap. Then they can get to work drafting an ordinance. Jackson, Dixmont, and others are blazing the trail. Anyone in any town that has a hill and a gentle breeze needs to send Brian's remarks to their selectmen:…

Dagher, a compelling public speaker, acknowledged the need for backup and or spinning reserve. He said it should be done regionally, probably with Hydro Quebec. He talked about the electrification of our heating and driving systems creating the new demand.
He opined that in his wildest dreams he might someday get production cost down to 8 cents. During Q & A he was reminded many times about the RI project in the paper this week that signed for 25 cents. He acknowledges that it is…

I read where a wind "farm" was being sued in New York. The people who leased a small part of their land to the wind scammers were unable to sell anything until matters were settled in court. Something leasers do not realize and are never told, unless they happen to be lawyers familiar with the system. Al Queda seeks out rural poor areas to bribe and radicalize the locals. They make promises and throw around money which immediately gets everyone's attention. The wind industry operates the same…

First Wind is having an informational meeting at our town office on January 18th. I think my husband and I will be in the minority - NOT IN FAVOR - of towers being put up on Bower's Mtn., leased land from Bower's Mtn, LLC. Most people seen either not to care - or to be in support of them. The Town Clerk - is thrilled - it means an influx of cash and will help us offset the increasing taxes. Unfortunately - I have a feeling that a lot of people will agree with her, especially if FW begins…

Despite the filing of a detailed, expert and categorical objection to the First Wind Oakfield Project application and numerous residents' written objections, the DEP has just approved the application and the project may actually go forward. The group of local landowners and residents are planning to file an appeal, but they need your help.
THIS IS TERRIBLE NEWS AND WE MUST FIGHT THIS!!
PLEASE CALL OR WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES AND THE GOVERNOR!!

Some statements speak for themselves: “Hydro-Quebec’s move last month to boost its power exports to the United States by acquiring New Brunswick Power’s transmission lines has raised eyebrows in New England, where renewable energy ventures would face stiff completion from low-cost hydro generated north of the border. “
“ Immediately after the acquisition was unveiled, Angie O’Connor, president of the New England Power Generators Association, warned that the deal could harm smaller American…

Regarding the straw proposals --- I forwarded the link to Lynne Williams, Esq. (she is also running as the green candidate for Governor). She is representing the 'Friends of Lincoln Lakes' and our group - 'Partnership for the Preservation of the Downeast Lakes Watershed' in this struggle against the onslaught of 'BIG WIND'. (See her reply below) She is going to go back and figure out where she got 2007 from -- but hopefully she's right and it's a dead issue.
Hi Tracy: This…
