Wind power development

Abbott: I am a proponent of developing all possible alternative energy, and wind is one of those alternatives, but we do have to be cognizant of the impact they have had on the people who live near them; that's a part of why I am such a proponent of the deep, off-shore wind…

wind and our national security

Jay Cashman of Patriots Renewables has said he feels his wind projects are needed for our national security.

I can not comprehend how utilizing the weakest form of generating reliable electricity makes us a stronger nation. Would you turn your firearms in and replace them with peashooters and feel you have made yourself more secure in your own home ?

Maine Wind Weak: UMPI Wind Turbine Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The $ 2 million UMPI wind turbine was commissioned exactly one year ago. Since that time, our elected officials gave praise (see below) , a film about the turbine was made, budget cuts had to be made within the university system and the famous turbine's long expected goal of 1,000,000 KWH of electricity ended up overshooting reality by 65%. Efficiency was only 11.6% of capacity.

Commercial wind operations do not reveal their wind production data because they claim it…

Another glimpse at Wind's impact on your electric bill

Less than a week after getting its federal approval, Cape Wind has made a deal with an electric distribution utility in Massachusetts. The company, called National Grid, serves 3.3 million customers in MA, NH, NY, RI, VT. By comparison, Central Maine Power has about a half million customers.

According to the below reports, it is apparent that the reference to the 8 to 10 cents per kWh now paid by customers is their rate before Transmission and… Continue

UMPI website is now working

I just heard from Webmaster Eric Brisette of UMPI that the live turbine data website site is up and running again. It shows a net gain of 38277 kwh since the site went down 13 days ago. Apparently the turbine kept producing despite the glitch in the fibre link to the site's computer - a net gain of 38277 kwh is reported, or a little less that 3000 kwh a day, which is 20% of nominal capacity.

UMPI website down - some dates and details

I have found the UMPI "live turbine data" website to be "down" on the following dates: April 16-31; May 1-6. The live turbine data website reported drawing power from the grid for a number of days 4/7-4/25 - usually

-3kw, and the kwh reported on the website, which should be labeled "kwh net since comissioning" would go down by one every 3 hours or so. Sometimes it rrported drawing -.3kw, sometimes as much as 6.6 kw or as little as 2. kw. Everything went to zero about 4/26.

UMPI Wind Data

Just stopped by the UMPI web site to check out the turbine data. All zeros. "The Live Wind Data page is down. We are aware of the problem and are working with our contractors to find a solution."

How long has this been down? Anyone know?

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
