Grand Lake Pictures

I just looked at Bill Beavers' post of the pictures of what Grand Lake will look with wind turbines.  While those pictures show what everyone knows will happen, the truly sad picture is when the sun goes down and the flashing red lights on the towers, and the white strobes on the control towers destroy the dark-sky viewing of our universe.  For those of you who have not had that experience, take a ride to the Lincoln Lakes area at night and see what I am talking about.  There are pictures…

UK sees real cost of onshore wind

read it all

Telegraph, UK:

"And here’s the final rub. Once allowance is made for the inefficient use of back-up generating capacity, wind power turns out to be an expensive and inefficient way of reducing CO2 emissions when compared with the option of investing in efficient and flexible gas combined-cycle plants or indeed…

Maine Ratepayers Robbed; Citizens Ignored; Their Rights Laughed At

First Posted Here 4/12/12

Who thinks that the Maine PUBLIC Utilities Commission is looking out for the public after yesterday's decision, ignoring their staff?

Is there anyone who believes this to be the case?

Former Governor Baldacci's former Chief of Staff Kurt Adams took over $ 1million in stock options from his then future employer First Wind while Chairman of the PUC. While there, Adams helped grease the skids for the…

Angus King: "Maine is the Saudi Arabia of Wind"

C'mon Angus, how can you look the people of Maine who trusted you straight in the eye and tell them that they are living in the Saudi Arabia of Wind, when you know that this same line is being told to residents of at least 14 other states?

Come-on lines like this appeal to the greed in people in hopes that they drop their guard and suspend the use of common sense. You see the same thing in those emails from Nigeria that tell…

What Every Maine Ratepayer Needs to Know

There's a problem with wind power in Maine

Inadequate transmission lines mean some power has to be kept off the grid. And ratepayers will likely bear the cost of future upgrades.

Another Green Boondoggle

When the wind blows too hard, and there is not enough draw on the grid, the turbines have to be shut down.  That means that the wind producers can't make money, and they now are being PAID to shut down their turbines.  You just can't make this stuff up.  How inefficient!!!!!  How STUPID!!!!  What a waste.

14,000 Wind Turbines Abandoned in USA

There are currently more than 14,000 wind turbines that have been ABANDONED asross the USA.  I hope this is not the future of Maine.  With the subsidies likely being pulled at the end of this year, who is going to have to pay for removing the towers that have already been put up?  They needed 15 years to fund the removal costs according to Maine Law.  We are not there yet, but it is something to think about.  …

Two more articles about the Township 37 pot-farm, Malcolm French, Haynes Timberland

This is scarey.  If Malcolm is really involved in all of this, and it doesn't sound good (after reading the Portland Herald article in the link below), I am sure he will have some big legal expenses if he doesn't wind up losing his company.  To think he and Cianbro would be developing an industrial wind farm on Greenland Ridge overlooking East Grand Lake in Danforth, Maine, makes me wonder what else is going on.

I wonder what other sites these folks were considering.  Malcom's company…

Check out these articles, and then visit the Keep It Grand website (http://www.keepitgrand.org).

Looks like Malcolm French and Cianbro are in for some tough times with Greenland Ridge project,

or at least will be experiencing some delays while the legal issues get sorted out.…

UMPI TURBINE website declares "It's working!"

After many months the UMPI website is declaring:

"Repairs are complete and the wind turbine is once again

turbine has been restored and the live wind data is currently

UMPI turbine seems to be working

The UMPI turbine seems to be working! At 4:00 pm today (9/26/12) the website reports rotor rpm at 18.1; generator rpm 28.6; power 354KW, and a 30-hour net gain of about 4500 KWH.  This is the largest net gain reported in months. The turbine's installed capacity is 600 KW, or 600X24H=14,400 KWH per day.  That's a Capacity Factor of .25 .

Who can write the wording?  Who wants to see a citizen's petition against WIND?

I see it as one way of saving/stalling the destruction of UT.

UMPI turbine website still working - sort of

The UMPI turbine is continuing its partial data reporting.  The wind speed seems to vary, and the rotor and generator rpm vary also, but the power being produced has been a steady minus figure for five days, usually

- 0.1 KW. I check this daily.

Net power produced has dropped about 38 kwh in that time. "Power" reported was 25,122 KWH Sept. 19;…

I am asking for your help for Forest, WI

Dear Fellow Wind Fighters:

I am asking for your help.

We, in the town of Forest, St. Croix County,WI have been fighting against an industrial wind project for two years. The Highland Wind Farm--41 towers 497 foot tall 2.5 MW turbines (likely Nordex N100)--is on the map for our small township. We stopped the project on a local level about one year ago when we recalled the town board  based on open records that showed evidence of open meeting violations and possible…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
