....................Mills’ order means that state agencies with the “legal authority to issue permits can once again do their work with Maine’s local communities and stakeholders to determine which projects should go forward,” according to a Friday prepared statement.

Crony capitalism hopes to get a boost here in Maine.
Perhaps someone needs to tell Jeremy Payne that on February 1, the U.S. Department of Energy issued a condemnation of the current approaches to floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) and a decision to proceed by researching radically different design concepts. The DOE advised that "the current state of the art for FOWT is too massive and expensive for practical deployment", also saying "Floating Offshore Wind Turbines…

Gov. Janet Mills seems to be warming up to Central Maine Power’s plan to build a major new power line through western Maine’s forests, now that CMP and Hydro-Quebec are offering a new benefits package to the state............................Mills said she wants to see a finalized package before passing final judgment. The companies and other stakeholders are negotiating the terms of that agreement as CMP seeks permits from state utility and environmental regulators.

To say that Camuso was eager may be an understatement.

This is a short video where a representative from EDPR (Energias de Portugal Renovaveis), Kellen Ingalls, is speaking to a softball pitching local Rhode Island reporter. This is likely part of an effort to convince the state of Rhode Island to select their project, Number Nine Wind "Farm" for Rhode Island's clean energy RFP.
Info on the RFP is here:

Baker talks about "one failed experience" with onshore wind, conveniently ignoring all the harm that Maine and Mainers have experienced from numerous wind projects.
Charlie Baker defended wind power after a Republican congressman questioned him on Capitol Hill
Rep. Tom McClintock, a California Republican, said Baker had “waxed eloquently” about the Bay State’s offshore wind projects, but raised questions…

"More destructive than a major war on U.S. soil" is how Mr. Carlson describes what would be the effects of replacing fossil fuel and nuclear power with wind and solar in 12 years, as called for in the "Green New Deal", a plan being embraced these days by at least some of our supposed representatives on Capitol Hill.

Hyper-localism and enviro-ideology have blocked construction of several needed natural gas pipelines into the region in the past decade, leaving it the only part of the country that has constrained supplies of natural gas.
There are some signs that New England’s governors are finally willing to do something about this. If so, voters should support their efforts to change, because the status quo means depending on perpetually mild winter weather.
While the winter so far…

Ultimately, the burden of proving that Maine needs the line falls on CMP, which is also responsible for making sure regulators have all the information they need to make a decision on the project, said former Maine Public Utilities Commission Chairman Kurt Adams..............Instead of asking Hydro-Quebec questions directly, participants in both Maine and Massachusetts regulatory proceedings have had to direct questions…

The plan by Rep. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, would require Central Maine Power and Emera Maine to sell all of their transmission and distribution assets to the proposed Maine Power Delivery Authority. Bill supporters said the authority would use low-interest revenue bonds to make the multi-billion dollar purchase, allowing the new consumer-owned utility to provide electricity to most Maine residents at lower rates than those charged by the two investor-owned utilities.

Cranston isn’t the only Rhode Island community concerned about the impacts of siting wind turbines close to neighborhoods. Some residents of Coventry have complained of shadow flicker and noise from the 10 414-foot-tall turbines in their rural village of Greene. They say the utility-scale facility isn’t consistent with the town’s comprehensive plan and has dramatically changed the village’s long-established characteristics.…

If the turbines had operated as planned, functioning 24 hours a day, they were projected to earn the town between an estimated $1 million and $2 million a year..............In addition to the $10 million that the town spent on building the turbines, they now have to pay as much as $2 million more to remove them.
“It’s a shame,” said Susan Moran, chair of the town’s board of selectmen, who initially supported the turbines but voted to take them down. “This is absolutely a financial…

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
