American Wind Energy CEO Denise Bode
Renewable Energy Industry Chafed About Senate Energy Bill
by Timothy B. Hurst on July 22, 2010
The wind industry is not responding well to today's news that the Senate is abandoning a comprehensive energy and climate bill and that the proposed plan…

If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. And if you don't like your oft stated annual wind turbine goal of over 1,000,000 KWH, just change it to 700,000, which is exactly what UMPI has done on its website very quietly. In fact, the UMPI website has been WIPED CLEAN of any mention of the long stated primary goal of producing 1,000,000 KWH per year, which previously had been prominent on the site. Perhaps this simply reflects the reality that in Year One, ended 5/14/10, only…

Tick, tock, tick tock. The sad performance of the $2 million (and counting) UMPI industrial wind turbine continues.
Yesterday at 7:02 AM UMPI had achieved 690,542 KWH after 422 days. At 10:17 AM, 27 hours later, achievement stood at 690,588, a gain of only 46 KWH. At the same time, yesterday was a sweltering day and air conditioners drew plenty of power to keep us cool.
The capacity factor is a miserable…

Summertime, and the living is breezy --- NOT.
Just as the air conditioners are starting to crank up in earnest, the wind turbines stop turning. They hardly produce any electricity in the windier winter. And they produce almost zero electricity when Maine turns on its air conditioners. Brilliant, simply brilliant.
UMPI's $2 million (and counting) wind turbine experiment is clearly elucidating the gross failure of wind…

The $ 2 million UMPI wind turbine was commissioned exactly one year ago. Since that time, our elected officials gave praise (see below) , a film about the turbine was made, budget cuts had to be made within the university system and the famous turbine's long expected goal of 1,000,000 KWH of electricity ended up overshooting reality by 65%. Efficiency was only 11.6% of capacity.
Commercial wind operations do not reveal their wind production data because they claim it…

On May 12, 2010, we asked if you agreed an investigation is warranted in the matter of former Maine Public Utilities Commission Chairman Kurt Adams accepting equity units from First Wind, where he now works as senior vice president, while still working for the state.

If you're a politician and the late night talk show comics go after you, the end may be near.
Similarly, if you are an electricity generating source (Hint: It doesn't work), and the Simpsons go after you, it can't be good. Well, that's just what they did on TV last night and you can see it whenever you like at:

OK, figure this one out, UMPI's wind turbine under performance is apparently exceeded only by that of the turbine's data reporting. The 554,781 KWH year to date production observable just a few hours ago is now ZERO.
Better data are kept by exercisers recording their workouts at $2 spinning classes than at this $2 MILLION spinning class.…

George Will has unleashed the following critique of wind in the 4/19/10 Newsweek. It's been on sale / in mailboxes for at least a week, so you may have seen it.
Excerpt:
"Meanwhile, America, which pioneered nuclear power, is squandering money on wind power, which provides 1.3 percent of the nation's electricity: it is slurping up $30 billion of tax breaks and other subsidies amounting to $18.82 per megawatt-hour, 25 times as much per megawatt-hour as the…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT
******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********
(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
