Jim Wiegand - Wind power’s dirty little secret: dead eagles

Since 1997 the numbers of eagle carcasses from wind energy has grown every year. As of 2016 more than 35,000 eagles have been shipped to the National Eagle Repository near Denver. In 1997 when America had just 1/35th of the installed wind energy we have today, wind energy was already listed as one of the primary sources of the repository’s eagle carcasses.

Monhegan floating wind - the twenty year rationale

Listen as UMaine Anthony Viselli "explains"  for 45 seconds the need for the floating wind turbines to stay off Monhegan for twenty years. His claim:  by the time 20 years have blown past, the two floating turbines chugging away will have earned  hundreds of  million dollars or…

Offshore Wind Farm Costs $150,000 Per Home Currently Powered

First Wind is the gift that keeps on giving - this time via their spin off company Deepwater Wind. Note that their CEO, Jeffrey Grybowski, was chief of staff for Rhode Island's governor.

Three miles off the coast of Block Island, R.I., the wind farm is currently generating enough electricity to power 2,000 homes, but building the five turbines costed $300 million. That’s roughly $150,000 per household just to build the turbines, not to…

Wind Subsidies Should End

"Without subsidies, wind power is a loser". From Warren Buffett.

"I lost my ass in wind." T. Boone Pickens.

Both these massively rich investors have been involved in wind farms and energy development and those are exact quotes from both of them.

This article makes a good point that Wind has made…

PPH Shills Again: State should not block ocean wind project

This wind cheer leading piece, which sounds as though it came from a wind developer's PR firm, starts off with the line "There are no oil wells in Maine." That should tell you a lot of what's to follow given that we make virtually zero electricity from oil and electricity is all that wind power makes, however paltry. The wind pushing then goes on to imply that wind is inexpensive electricity:…

NY's Exclusive Hampton's: First Wind Spin Off Company Accused of "Buying" Support

“You can try to buy advice, you can try to buy trawl surveys, you can try to buy scientific data,” he said. “I would suggest . . . that you don’t necessarily listen to somebody that was hired by them,” he told the trustees. “Listen to the people doing the job, somebody actually out trawling, running around that bay, trying to catch fish, and trying to make a living.”…

COULD THIS BE THE BEGINNING OF TRUTH ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE

One of my biggest frustrations in fighting ineffective industrial wind development is that when you talk about fighting wind power most people stare at you dumbfounded! They ask - How can you be against this?  The planet is dying! The Earth is warming at a horrific pace! We have to do everything we can do now!  And as you and I know the United States has spent billions of taxpayer dollars in response to this thinking!

The New York Times is trying to re-brand itself as the…

DISMAL ECONOMICS AND INCREASED CO2 OF MONTPELIER WOOD-CHIP DISTRICT HEATING PLANT

The Montpelier District Heating Plant is a joint project of the City of Montpelier and the State of Vermont to provide local renewable energy to downtown Montpelier. With the rebuilding of the State’s existing central heating plant, modern wood-fired boilers will heat the Capitol Complex and connections will be put in place to expand its service area to City and School buildings as well as connect to private buildings in downtown Montpelier.

Before renovation, the heating…

Wanna' Know Why Our Electric Bills Are So High???

Whenever we end up commenting on articles found in our PPH or BDN there are always twits on there that tell us "Why don't the fossil fuel industries give up their subsidies?" Well here is some ammunition for you to use when commenting back.  Hopefully these subsidies will dry up and make the "Renewable Energy" sector have to stand on their own two feet. Won't it be nice?…

The winds of woe - Annette Smith

Prospective neighbors of wind turbines heard all the promises:  “Quiet as a library.”  “Like a baby’s breath.”  “The same decibel level as a refrigerator.”  The more brazen wind developers claimed “you will not hear them.” Then the four hundred and fifty foot wind towers with their bus-size nacelles and three-bladed fans were built. Sixteen in Sheffield, four on Georgia Mountain, twenty-one in Lowell.  And  neighbors learned the truth.  Yes, you can hear them.  They sound like “a jet…

PPH - Bill would lift restrictions on current large-scale solar projects, and set new power goals

Next Thursday, a bill that would fully preserve the financial incentive known as net-energy billing, or net metering, is due for a hearing. That bill also would give rebates to homes and businesses to encourage more solar installations. It’s likely to be the most contentious solar proposal to come before lawmakers this spring. Environmental groups are planning a noon rally outside the Cross Office Building prior to the hearing.…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
