Maine Public | By Murray Carpenter

Published October 16, 2023 at 6:43 AM EDT

Nearly 100 opponents of a power line that would connect southern Aroostook County to central Maine rallied in Augusta Saturday afternoon.

The 1,200-megawatt power line would run from Glenwood Plantation to Coopers Mills, sending electricity south from a 1,000-megawatt wind farm that's proposed for Aroostook County.

The Public Utilities Commission accepted LS…

They're Lying About Polar Bears Again

The constant lying and gaslighting is getting very old and very tired. The narrative hoax surrounding the extinction of polar bears due to shrinking sea ice has been played over and over as markers of doom.

The most recent lie comes via a report concerning the declining populaton of West Hudson Bay. What's conveniently omitted or buried is the sizeable bear increase in Southern Hudson Bay. How did this happen if the sea ice is shrinking?

Here's the full story via…

" a legislatively mandated procurement process" " the parties are currently involved in confidential negotiations "

The PUC shows its hands, finally.

After all the BS the PUC dished out claiming the LS Power project's approval hinged on the benefits to MAINE ratepayers as it wrote clearly in the original request for proposals. A billion dollars later, it claims its hands are tied. This gutless tactic is why government is no…

Public Comment #57 to Maine PUC-LS Power Transmission Line

We recently purchased a property that is directly affected by one of the proposed routes of the

Aroostook Renewable Gateway project. We did not and still have not received ANY information

about this project from LS Power directly, we only know about this because of chatter in local

community forums.

Our affected property is largely protected wetlands, marshland, and protected watershed, old

growth forest, with incredible ancient trees, and the property itself also has…

Green Oceans, the Rhode Island citizens group that fiercely opposes offshore wind farms, is in the midst of a civil lawsuit it has filed against the state Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC), claiming the council violated the constitution, state regulations, and its own responsibilities when it approved the Revolution Wind farm in May.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
