Massachusetts Offshore Wind Now Zero Electric Ratepayer Savings

Rewards Set For Offshore Wind To Back Out Of Contracts     May 1. 2023
.
The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) at the end of 2020 issued an order approving long-term contract bids for offshore wind between competing offshore wind contractors and the Commonwealth’s Electric Distribution Companies.
.
The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) authority granted under Section 21 of Chapter 227 of the Acts of 2018 “An Act to Advance Clean Energy” requires the Massachusetts distribution companies to jointly and competitively solicit and procure proposals for offshore wind energy transmission. The Massachusetts utility companies have complied by law with the legislation required since 2018 and accepted contracts required by law.
.
The offshore wind contracts were reviewed and approved by an independent group hired by the Massachusetts Attorney General who is now Governor Maura Healey.
.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities in December of 2022 approved 20-year power purchase agreements between the state’s three major utilities and the offshore wind developers who bid on these projects. The project agreements are the result of four years of legislation in Massachusetts.
.
The Massachusetts executive branch including the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is working behind the scenes to work out a deal with offshore wind contractors. Electric ratepayers are the only group not at the table.
.
The currently approved bids between offshore wind contractors and utility companies provide cheaper electricity for consumers. Massachusetts politicians in election campaigns and for years touted major milestones for the state’s ability to produce carbon-free power and save ratepayers money.
.
Offshore wind companies now say their projects cannot be financed and built and want to back out of the contracted bids between them and the Massachusetts utility companies.
.
The offshore companies want to set a precedence and rebid the contracts this Spring at a higher rate costing consumers more money. The wind companies have also filed lawsuits SJ-2023-0046.
.
1. Massachusetts has a commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
2. The offshore wind companies have a profit motive.
3. Massachusetts citizens through press releases have been told the offshore project bids approved so far will save ratepayers money.
.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has pledged to achieve a 100% clean electricity supply by 2030.
.
The term Ponzi scheme originated in Massachusetts in the early 1900s.
.
Allowing ocean contractors to back out of contracts and rebid the same contracts look to take on a state Ponzi scheme where for four years ratepayers were told they save money and now this year more money is required from them. What about next year?
.
# Note:  Block Island, Rhode Island residents were told if they voted for the 2016 offshore wind project their rates would drop 40 percent. They never dropped. Massachusetts residents are now going to see history repeat itself.

I don't know who blew up the THREE World Trade Center steel skyscrapers. But I do know that our government and mainstream media lied to us about the cause of the Building 7 collapse. You know, the skyscraper collapse you never really heard about.

It is all about Eliitist Good for Nothings (who do write good legal documents however   that effectively screw Joe and Jill Public out of their money)  supporting their shyster ways.

When will the public ever learn that the administrative state is not in it for the good of the public in any way.

The are self-serving good for nothings  who  would do the world some good by cleaning refuse from highways or street sweeping  rather than writing legislation that milks the public coffers for fake  narratives like "Global Warming"

Bait and Switch. The ratepayers were screwed with original contracts and now their government is about to really screw them.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
