UMPI Quietly Revises Its Wind Turbine Goal

Funny how they quietly dropped their annual KWH estimate from 1,000,000 to 700,000 with absolutely no fanfare, but were otherwise never shy about boasting of the turbine far and wide. They even did a roadshow to boast, accepted some sort of award for it and saw a movie get made about it. But when the 1,000,000 went to 700,000 KWH, not a peep. All the while, their projected $100,000 in annual electricity savings never changed. How does that math work again?

Read about the disaster that is the UMPI wind turbine and the university cover up of the failure at the link below. It's high time the University of Maine keeps its promise and share full details of this experiment with the public. To know that the wind power it so fervently publicized failed and then decide not to report on the failurde is malpractice on the part of supposed educators. So educate us. Show us the money. Show us the electricity. Show us your math. Show us who decided to keep the public in the dark all these years. Show us who will be held accountable. The Maine PUC commissioner Kurt Adams, who jumped to First Wind, gave UMPI $50,000 for this. The PUC thus has a full right to conduct an investigation.
Otherwise, we learn nothing and repeat our mistakes.

So, what we need to know is just what the total cost to taxpayers is from this University boondoggle.
I'd like to see a bonafide financial statements so we can find the only entities who made money on the project.
As I said once before when I was in Presque Isle in 2012 it seemed like the windmill was built in a depression and what wind blew in went over the top of the turbine, hence miserable performance resulted.

We want to make sure our campus and community are aware of the fire in our wind turbine last night that caused a power outage on campus. Safety has been our top priority throughout this situation. We want everyone to know that no one was injured and crews helped to quickly get the fire under control and restore power. The cause has not been determined yet and a damage assessment is underway. We’ll provide updates as we know more. Thanks to everyone—PI Fire Dept., PI Police Dept., Emera Maine, and our Facilities crew for their quick response!

Assuming this is not an April Fool's joke...
The article says "The 600 kilowatt turbine was installed in 2009 at a cost of $2 million. The turbine can generate roughly 700,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year — enough to power about 65 average American homes — and is estimated to save UMPI approximately $100,000 annually in electricity costs."
Doing the math, we see that UMPI assumes a capacity factor of 13.49%. Anyone know what cap factor they were promising prior to the turbine's installation?
UMPI has not provided output figures since Feb 12th, so the public has no way of confirming or refuting their figures. But here they say the wind turbine is saving the University $100,000 in electricity costs annually. They also say the it cost $2 million to install. So, their looking at a 20 year payback ASSUMING those savings are constant over the 20 years. Everyone knows the turbine has sat idle for many months at a time due to breakdowns. Those who sold the idea of this turbine as a cost saver need to be brought to account.
