Representative Michael Michaud - Supports the PTC - Response from my call regarding opposing the PTC

I am typing the full letter response here that I received from Rep. Michaud. I typed certain areas in bold:

Thank you for contacting me regarding The Production Tax Credit. Maine has unique needs that often require bi-partisan solutions, focused attention and thinking outside of the box. That is why I appreciate your taking the time to get in touch with me and why I come home to Maine nearly every weekend.

In order to protect our economy and our national security, we must reduce our dependence on foreign oil by investing in renewable energy and adopting efficiency measures that save money for homeowners and businesses. Moreover, these investments are already contributing to the strengthening of our economy. Over the last six years alone, U.S. domestic production of wind turbine components has expanded to over 400 facilities in 43 states. This increase in manufacturing represents jobs that are coming back to Maine and other parts of the country.

Under current law, the PTC provides a tax credit of 2.2 cents per kilowatt-hour produced from utility-scale wind turbines, geothermal, solar, hydropower, biomass and marine and hydrokinetic renewable energy plants. These funds help the renewable energy industry expand and develop new more efficient technologies. Maine is in a perfect position for developing green jobs, as our location allows us to focus on new wind and tidal power development. For this reason, I have been a consistent supporter of extending the PTC.

I understand the concerns some have expressed with wind energy, as it involves placing wind turbines on our pristine Maine coastlines and mountains. These turbines are often noisy and can even harm wildlife. While many studies have proven these risks to be minimal, we must thoroughly investigate all of the potential impacts in advance of developing new sites. The State of Maine has worked to develop a comprehensive permitting process for these wind projects, but we should always be looking for ways in which we can improve upon that success.

In 2009, the University of Maine received $8 million in a Department of Energy grant to develop a deepwater offshore wind test center in Maine and fund research and development of floating offshore wind turbine platforms. Additionally, Maine has received $1.25 million for additional tidal power and composite wind blade manufacturing technology, which will help Maine develop our manufacturing and production capacity and allow Maine to compete globally.

I strongly agree that the expansion of wind energy must remain a community driven process with strong approval and oversight mechanisms. Currently, all of these projects must provide evidence that they are a proper investment of taxpayer funds, producing the maximum amount of energy in an efficient and responsible manner and taking into account concerns regarding the environmental and community impact. While not everyone agrees on some of these new, clean energy projects, we must work together to use the resources available to us to develop green energy for our state and ultimately create jobs

Thank you again for sharing your views with me. In addition, I also provide occasional email updates on a range of issues affecting people in Maine. I appreciate the opportunity to represent Maine in Congress.

With warmest regards,

By now Michaud should know the scam has no benefits . I will remind him.

Sorry Rep Michaud is just another puppet that cannot think clearly on his position on wind turbine generation. Funny I recieved the exact same computer generated letter. We need good honest individual thinking in the state house and on the federal level Remember these folks are politicians not engineers they only know what they are told by corporate predators seeking to suck the last pot of gold dry. Remember we are loosing the battle on creating jobs. We have recently had a bailout on the federal level of I believe to be two trillion dollars and where do you think we are today with that? One of my strongest beliefs is that with a National Monorail System we can create electricity while we ride to our destinations,Yes the technology is here Create jobs in every sector by the 10s of thousands, the need for bridges will be limited as monorail systems can be built above all obstacles on existing roadways, highways etc, can travel upwards of 150mph+ they are quiet, clean with no emissions and the benefits go on and on. If this Great idea is not even on an agenda in Washington by 2014 then you better be off the grid by then.--Got Vision

Rep. Michaud, The false economics that drive the WIND FACTORY concept in Maine are leading the State down the wrong path. When these Wind Factory people come into an area, they quietly use OUR TAX money to buy off local individuals covering their tax leans to get the land they want. They promise outrageous sums to the towns, such as firehouses,EMS buildings and equipment, donate money for monuments, flood the airways with advertiseing.all with our tax monies. Once a land owner signs these leases they are bound by the gag clause and cannot speakout about the real unexpected problems with the turbines affecting their health and our enviorment. As for the jobs created, slim to none when it comes to both near and long term positions. Please remember, the equipment is being built outside the United States. We can expend all sorts of dollars on developing new high tech. fibers for the blades, China, Spain,Brazil etc. already have the technology.

"Currently, all of these projects must provide evidence that they are a proper investment of taxpayer funds, producing the maximum amount of energy in an efficient and responsible manner "

Maybe, Member of Congress, Michaud doesn't read current news. How many of these alternative energy schemes have managed to make taxpayer money disappear . Investments = billions,  taxpayer returns = zero.   Another energy dunce drinks the kool-aid.

Clearly Rep. Michaud states he feels it is ok if my family is "harmed minimally" by wind turbine noise. I feel my family MUST be protected and not harmed at all ! But he follows it up by saying basically "there should be no more advancement on wind projects until they "thoroughly investigate all of the potential impacts" yet he supports the PTC extension. Very indecisive.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
