"DiMasi business ties questioned: His killing of bill benefited friend"

By Frank Phillips, (Boston) Globe Staff, May 1, 2008

Just months after House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi killed a bill that was designed to block a controversial liquefied natural gas project from being built on 73 acres in Fall River, the landowner, Jay Cashman, sold the property to the terminal developers and made a $14.2 million profit, according to a Globe review of real estate and… Continue

Some say Maine belongs to Mainers

To those who would want to change the scenery of Maine with their monstrous wind machines, Please take the time to read the Comprehensive Plans adopted by many communities throughout the rural part of this State. Almost every Comprehensive Plan recognizes the physical assets of local geographic features. Many allude to the beauty of mountainous views even as municipal congestion takes place below these same mountains.
Then, take note, that the unorganized territories became…

This is long, but reveals some of the things happening in Washington D. C.

As Congress hammers out legislation to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to address the issue of global climate change, independent producers are elbowing in a place at the table for North American natural gas.
The top 28 independents – which deliver about 40 percent of U.S. natural gas…

The Magical Mystery Tour

I must say, Iberdrola Renewable’s presentation in Bingham last week was a learning session for me. There’s obviously magic in them windmills. When I asked one man, proudly standing by with a colorful chart displaying a 10 mile per hour wind velocity differential between the high point of a particular blade tip to the low point of a particular blade tip, wouldn’t the differential wind forces set up by this cause imbalance at the rotor. He explained that the wind machine has properties… Continue

Why Wind Won't Work

Should wind developers be paid for electricity when conditions within the grid forces them to stop production ?                                               A recent revelation: "Approximately 25 TWh (yes, 25 terawatt-hours) of wind energy was curtailed (idled) in the U.S. last year to keep the off-peak grid energy price from frequently going negative.  That is about equal to the energy in 700 million gallons of gasoline just being thrown away.… Continue

March 10th ........ The Ruckus in Dixfield

I feel it is imperative we reach all the people we can from area towns and alert them to this upcoming event. I have received assurance from one of our area state representatives that they will attend.

If we can keep our story(ies) in the spotlight, by the press, by the facebook, by the numerous websites from now to March 10th, this will definitely exceed the rally we had in Dixfield with our last forum. Dixfield is right in the center of all these projects. Patriots is getting…

Looking At The Same Thing In Two Ways

Now, here is the DEP response to the fact that the turbines in Mars Hill have exceeded rule limits :

This 2 dBA exceedance is within what is an imperceptible change in noise level to the average person.  These findings above the 50 dBA limit are a minor deviation from the compliance standard

We heard from the same DEP at the Woodstock appeal that sound modeling included an additional 3dBa to model calculations. One commissioner asked how to quantify this and was told 3dBa was…

BEP DENIES US

After hearing testimony ( testimony is a solemn attestation as to the truth of a matter.) regarding a friend suffering a heart attack attributable to wind mills near his home, how can anyone with any semblance of connection to human welfare so callously show such disregard .Is it really happening or just a nightmare.

Stuck In The Recession With You, Wind

Wind developers love to engage in conversation about the mechanical aspects of turbines which steers people away from the truth about how utterly useless they are at grid scale . Even bad ideas can bring wealth to the game players, ( developers, a few landowners and money hungry town governments ) but this money has to come from somewhere and at some cost. The money comes from the taxpayers and the ratepayers ( you and I ) . the cost is loss of economic engine as wind forces aside the… Continue

NO MORE WIND CONTRACTS, PLEASE

Finally, we recognize that the linked standard offer and entitlement arrangements approved in this Order create certain obligations and risks for CMP that should be properly borne by customers rather than shareholders.  We are informed by our staff that CMP agrees to accept the obligations and risks as long as it is compensated for the financial consequences of satisfying those obligations.  Therefore, we explicitly find that any direct or…

I SAY THE STATE SHOULD FIGURE REDUCTION IN HEATING WITH OIL AS CREDITS TO THE RENEWABLE PORTFOLIO STANDARD

QUIETLY, MAINE IS REDUCING OIL CONSUMPTION AND ENTERING RENEWABLE ELECTRICAL GENERATION BY TRIED AND TRUE ENERGY RESOURCE. WOOD, PERHAPS TRANSITIONAL,  PERHAPS NOT, BUT THERE IS NO WIND IN THE PORTFOLIO.

Maine’s Colby College has begun construction on a new biomass heating plant that will replace about one million gallons of…

Try, Try Again ?

In spite of having government backing them ( Al Gore was Vice President ) and the first and best locations for wind resource, Mr. Bradley, a previous employee describes Enron's lack of success with " Green " energy:

Bradley: Enron’s green investments lost money year-by-year despite the taxpayer subsidies, so yes. The ‘green’ kick also got management off track—got the company off of a consumer-driven track onto a government-driven track. That is a bad trade even in…

Kick Iberdrola out of this State

Can anyone tell me why Iberdrola should be allowed to control delivery of electricity and build generation plants in Maine ? BTW, they are a foreign company very much involved in Spain's current fall towards bankruptcy.

Demand Transparency

With power purchase agreements becoming the favorite mechanism for sale of electricity from wind developments, why are they declared " priority information " and kept secret. We, the taxpayers, subsidize the existence of wind projects. This information contains pricing which helps reveal the impact wind will have on electric rates. How are we to know if wind can deliver 6 cent per kilowatt electricity if these " power purchase agreements" are allowed to be secret, Governor.

To The Residents of Carthage, Maine

Folks,

The Saddleback Mountain Wind Project has entered DEP review. Either due to oversight or outright arrogance, they have failed to include a developing homesite on their maps depicting homesites closest to project turbines. This developing homesite has been cleared and stumped and a camper trailer has been moved there. This camper trailer has provisions to allow it to be used for living quarters, and, in fact, a person has been there for several overnight stays.

The issues… Continue

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
