MAINE WIND ENERGY ADVISORY COMMISSION - REPORT Dated 1/2/19 (FINAL)

Democratic Rep. Seth Berry said the report will likely have little impact under Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, who has voiced support for promoting renewable energy. Mills’ office didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.

Socialized Cost Of Transmission In ISO-NE

Remember the Maine Power Reliability Project ?

CMP managed to get ISO-NE to agree it was for regional benefits, consequently, Maine's proportional cost was 8% of the total socialized cost.

Now comes Offshore Wind with Offshore Transmission.

Roxbury Wind Project Seen As 'Eyesore' For Hikers

BRUCE FARRIN, RUMFORD FALLS TIMES

ROXBURY — A proposal to build four wind turbines nearly 500 feet tall on North Twin Mountain in Roxbury drew opposition from conservationists and others at a public hearing Monday evening at the Town Office.

Nearly half of the 25 people attending testified, many of them having ties to Mahoosuc Land Trust in Bethel. The organization, which has more than 1,000 members, is dedicated to protecting the natural and cultural treasures…

Why Was The DEP Compromised From It's Original Position ? RoxWind Public Hearing

Now in the case of RoxWind's application for a small scale wind project in Roxbury, Maine.

There can be no doubt that the DEP finds itself in a absolutely, enormous mess that constitutes a breech of trust with the public.
The DEP accepted RoxWind's application in May 2018 indicating it was complete and ready for processing.
RoxWind provided a visual impact assessment that included Scenic Resources of State or National Significance…

How RGGI Works

"RGGI sets a regional limit, or cap, on carbon pollution from the region’s power plants. The cap declines annually—reducing total pollution—and is enforced by selling a decreasing number of permits, known as allowances, via quarterly auctions. Owners of polluting power plants purchase the allowances, or trade for them in the market, to account for their emissions."

"A bipartisan coalition of…

“New England’s Shrinking Need For Natural Gas”

"First, with or without a new pipeline, existing laws and regulations will cumulatively require New England’s use of natural gas for electric generation to decrease by 27 percent by 2023, relative to 2015 levels."  …

Explaining Variable Resources

The States yell " More Wind, More Solar " , While the Grid Operator exclaims " More Reliable Energy "

"Mark Karl,  Vice President, Market Development, ISO New England, explained that the ( New England ) region is shifting away from resources with on-site fuel supplies (coal, oil, nuclear) toward those that rely on “just-in-time” fuel delivery (natural gas) or variable weather conditions (renewables). Karl explained that, during extended cold weather…

Better Value Resources aka NOT WIND.

This man explains it in simple terms to ISO-NE :

Paul Peterson,  Principal Analyst, Synapse Energy Economics,  said that, between 2015 and 2030, natural gas use is projected to decrease by more than 40 percent and that the region needs to do more to ensure it is able to meet its carbon reduction goals. He also said that markets need to evolve in order to better value resources such as…

Why are there such stark differences in monthly electric bills among the New England States ?

All six states participate in a wholesale electric market that uses a clearinghouse pricing structure, meaning the wholesale price of electricity at any given moment is the same throughout the region.
State Average Monthly Electric Bill 2017
Connecticut $139.97
Massachusetts $116.86
New Hampshire $114.95
Rhode Island $105.76
Vermont $95.02
Maine $87.21
Could be Maine is more frugal with…

Where Was NG Plant Owners When We Fought Against Wind ?

I can't remember one natural gas plant owner in Maine that fought with us as we opposed  all the wind projects in Maine that now send over a million megawatt-hours of electricity into the grid because of purchase contracts with Southern New England Utilities.

Could it be whereas wind is intermittent and requires natural gas plant back-up. they knew their profit margins would increase with wind. while their production costs decreased as wind power offset their…

Maine's Green Dream Is A Reality

It's time for Maine to take a passive stance on energy policy for the sake of reliability and ratepayer price relief. The latest reports on Maine electric production pegs the state at 75% renewable electric generation. . Emissions from Maine Electric plants are at just half the 2025 RGGI…

MAINE NEARLY DOUBLES UP ON RENEWABLE GOALS !

                           Source : EIA

In 2017, about three-quarters of Maine's net electricity generation came from renewable sources, with almost one-third from hydroelectric dams, one-fourth from biomass generators using mainly wood waste products, and one-fifth from wind turbines. In addition, almost one-fifth of net generation came from natural gas.

A Call-Out To The NRCM and The Democratic Wing Of The Maine Legislature

To all those people, like the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Democratic Wing of the Maine Legislature, who want all of New England's electricity to be derived from renewables, aka, wind and solar replacing fossil fuels, how could you not confront the ISO-NE people who have decided to retain natural gas resources seeking retirement, specifically, Mystic Units 8 and 9, natural gas plants fueled by LNG . A special cost-of- service agreement will be implemented to keep these…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
