Pledging Blind Allegiance To Party To Kill A Bill.

Every vote that would either delay, derail or kill this bill before it could be referred to committee and brought forth for House and Senate vote was resoundingly and unanimously approved by the democrats and democrats only.…

LD 1810

Finally, the bill, LD 1810, has withstood the shenanigans of the self-possessed, egotistical, empty-suited Chairs of the EUT and ENR Committees.

It is on it's way tom the EUT Committee for a public hearing.
The passing of LD 1810, as written, gives the people now residing in most "Expedited Wind Areas" relief from automatic State Approval of Industrial Wind Projects based on lenient rules entirely written by the wind industry lackeys.
Once a…

How to Kill a Bill, Slap Down a Governor, And Puke All Over The Citizens

The smell of collusion is entrenched in these two statements :

Correspondence From Senator Tom Saviello 3-1-18 :

"Mr. Mckay, Let me be clear, there is no "hanky panky" going on. I have consistently worked to get all the environmentally related win bills in front of the environmental and natural resources committee(ENR) since DEP is the state department implementing the rules. In fact in 2013 I was successful in…

A Failed Representative State Government

The House acted on LD 1810 during the 2/6/18 session and referred it to the EUT Committee.

The Senate acted on LD 1810 during the 2/27/18 session and referred it to the ENR Committee, even after fully knowing the House had already referred it to EUT. Referred by Senator Saviello.

This set-up today's session in the House where a concurrence to the Senate action would have moved the bill on to the ENR Committee

Rep. Fredette explained the voting…

Why Does The EUT Committee Continue to Destruct Their Credibility Kowtowing To The NRCM ?

The Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, as usual, rolled over for their favorite lobbyists, NRCM, yesterday 2-27-18 , giving away the people's time to listen to a speaker giving a half-baked report commissioned by the NRCM about shutting down all privately owned biomass electric plants in the State.

The Report :

Economic Impact Assessment of Wood Chip Heat in Maine

Economic Impact Assessment of Wood Chip Heat in Maine

Here is a report prepared for the Natural Resources Council of Maine making argument for the closure of  Maine biomass electric plants.

Biomass plants qualify as RPS Class I Renewable Resource along with Wind Plants.

Small biomass plants in Maine account for nearly 90% of the State's required Class I Renewable Credit

Biomass electricity is a dispatchable resource.

Why NOT the closure of…

Review of Scenic Impacts of Associated Facilities. A DEP Draft Rule Worth Supporting

However, if the Department determines that application of the WEA…

The Market Responds To Public Policy:

The mad rush to incorporate more wind and solar power into the New England electricity network is creating interesting results.

State subsidies to wind and solar power plants is providing the money these ventures need for return on investments. Their ROI is based on far shorter time periods than investments in the much sturdier gas, hydro and nuclear plants.

The market response to these policy driven intermittent, renewable investments is based on reliability and the…

ISO-New England Updates

In all, 132 MW of wind and 86 MW of solar facilities cleared FCA #12 (most photovoltaic resources in New England are on the distribution system and don’t participate in the wholesale markets). Those totals include 1 megawatt of new wind and 21 megawatts of new solar facilities

Wind Power More than 1,300 MW of wind power is operational in the region. Developers are proposing nearly 8,600 MW of additional wind power, primarily in northern New England and offshore in southern New…

The Irony Of Wind And One's Emergency Act.

In a "what goes around comes around " potentially, ironic situation, could former Governor Baldacci, the one time Champion of Maine Wind Energy actually become an unwitting participant in it's demise ?

Baldacci is now an employee of Avangrid, a worldwide leader in service, innovation and investment in the U.S. energy industry.

More specifically, he is Vice Chair of the Board at Avangrid.

Avangrid owns CMP, an electrical transmission and distribution company…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
