" What, If Any"

The stalemate continues. CMP and Versant are not budging from their refusal to commit to the terms from LS Power.

Unbelievably, the PUC isn't budging from its refusal to provide Maine people transparency in this case.

The latest word from the PUC staff: Docket No.…

"Wind energy is an economically feasible, large-scale energy resource that does not rely on fossil fuel combustion"

This 2007 legislative statement from the "Wind Energy Act" is now 16 years old .

The statement rambles on declaring: "or nuclear fission, thereby displacing electrical energy provided by these other sources"

There are also several passages claiming wind energy "is an economically feasible, large-scale energy…

Pine Tree Power Vision: Say Good-Bye to the Internal Combustion Engine and Gas Stoves

"There are two core areas where the utility would be a leader on the green transition: (1) electrifying transportation and (2) upgrading buildings from oil and gas to electricity and increasing efficiency."

" a legislatively mandated procurement process" " the parties are currently involved in confidential negotiations "

The PUC shows its hands, finally.

After all the BS the PUC dished out claiming the LS Power project's approval hinged on the benefits to MAINE ratepayers as it wrote clearly in the original request for proposals. A billion dollars later, it claims its hands are tied. This gutless tactic is why government is no…

Public Comment #57 to Maine PUC-LS Power Transmission Line

We recently purchased a property that is directly affected by one of the proposed routes of the

Aroostook Renewable Gateway project. We did not and still have not received ANY information

about this project from LS Power directly, we only know about this because of chatter in local

community forums.

Our affected property is largely protected wetlands, marshland, and protected watershed, old

growth forest, with incredible ancient trees, and the property itself also has…

Public Comment #56 to Maine PUC-LS Power Transmission Line

CommentText I am writing to request that LS Power Grid Maine not be granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the Aroostook Renewable Gateway. My understanding is the PUC needs to consider various factors including nontransmission alternatives, public health and safety, scenic, historic and recreational values as well as how close the lines will be to homes. LSPGM has not provided any evidence of these considerations in establishing their routes nor have they engaged…

The effects of wind generated electricity as it overwhelms Maine's grid and ratepayer budgets

  • This chart shows wind generation makes up 27.3% of total Maine generation.

  • Wind nameplate generation in Maine is a little over 1000 megawatts

  • Wind generation in Maine is currently so spread out across the state, it affects nearly all distribution…

Direct proof that wind and solar increase the cost of grid reliability

Winter Preparations

"To avoid more emergencies, ERCOT issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to secure backup generation for the 2023-2024 winter. The RFP for “Firm Fuel Supply Service” would be for on-demand power generation from November 15, 2023, to March 15, 2024 with a due date of September 1.

Wildfires turn Canada’s vast forests from carbon sink into super-emitter

Mother Nature Wins the Carbon War, Again

"The vast swaths of pine, spruce and larch forest that blanket much of Canada have been prized for generations. Not only do they provide a home to hundreds of species – including some of the most threatened in the country – but they also absorb more greenhouse gases than they emit, acting as a huge carbon…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
