Who are the Brain Police?

Please look at the following three Harvard Crimson pieces on wind. The old links (where lots of anti-wind comments once existed) no longer work.
I searched their site and found the articles in new locations, but there are no longer any of the original comments.
Am I doing something wrong or are the brain police at work?

Wilting at Windmills

Summertime, and the living is breezy --- NOT.

Just as the air conditioners are starting to crank up in earnest, the wind turbines stop turning. They hardly produce any electricity in the windier winter. And they produce almost zero electricity when Maine turns on its air conditioners. Brilliant, simply brilliant.

UMPI's $2 million (and counting) wind turbine experiment is clearly elucidating the gross failure of wind…

Maine Wind Weak: UMPI Wind Turbine Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The $ 2 million UMPI wind turbine was commissioned exactly one year ago. Since that time, our elected officials gave praise (see below) , a film about the turbine was made, budget cuts had to be made within the university system and the famous turbine's long expected goal of 1,000,000 KWH of electricity ended up overshooting reality by 65%. Efficiency was only 11.6% of capacity.

Commercial wind operations do not reveal their wind production data because they claim it…

Should Kurt Adams’ actions be investigated?

On May 12, 2010, we asked if you agreed an investigation is warranted in the matter of former Maine Public Utilities Commission Chairman Kurt Adams accepting equity units from First Wind, where he now works as senior vice president, while still working for the state.

The Simpsons Discover Wind Power (or lack thereof)

If you're a politician and the late night talk show comics go after you, the end may be near.

Similarly, if you are an electricity generating source (Hint: It doesn't work), and the Simpsons go after you, it can't be good. Well, that's just what they did on TV last night and you can see it whenever you like at:

The Kase of the Krazy Killowatts

April 23, 2010 at 6:42PM

OK, figure this one out, UMPI's wind turbine under performance is apparently exceeded only by that of the turbine's data reporting. The 554,781 KWH year to date production observable just a few hours ago is now ZERO.

Better data are kept by exercisers recording their workouts at $2 spinning classes than at this $2 MILLION spinning class.…

National Columnist George Will Unleashes Criticism of Wind

George Will has unleashed the following critique of wind in the 4/19/10 Newsweek. It's been on sale / in mailboxes for at least a week, so you may have seen it.

Excerpt:

"Meanwhile, America, which pioneered nuclear power, is squandering money on wind power, which provides 1.3 percent of the nation's electricity: it is slurping up $30 billion of tax breaks and other subsidies amounting to $18.82 per megawatt-hour, 25 times as much per megawatt-hour as the…

UMPI Wind Turbine Scorecard

It's near impossible to get electricity production data from commercial wind complexes. So it is refreshing that UMPI has pledged to the people of Maine to share the data on electricity production from its $2 million wind turbine.
For those of you who thus follow the UMPI wind turbine progress with the same fervor as your favorite sports team, the attached simple Excel file (UMPI Turbine Analysis) can be downloaded and will let you keep score.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
