Presentation to Lincoln Town Council

I wrote this piece that was presented to the Lincoln Town Council by Friends of Lincoln Lakes member and CTFWP member Marge Mitchell, who has been a summer resident of Caribou Pond in Lincoln for 31 years. She is 80 years old and angry as Hell! Thank you for the great effort, Marge!

Good evening. My name is Marge Mitchell and I live on Caribou Pond. I…

Good Letter From Mr. Thurston to LURC

Dear Marcia,

I read with interest the report that is included in the agenda (item #4) of the upcoming LURC meeting. There is a lot of good analysis and it commendable that LURC is making the effort to understand the many impacts of wind power.…

Borealis Press: "Those Of You Against Windmills Are Dumb Beyond Thought"

Maine geeting card company Borealis Press says on its website:

"Objecting to windmills when the alternative is fossil or nuclear fuel is dumb beyond thought."

http://www.borealispress.net/About-Borealis/The-Environment

Apparently 100% of the electricity that Surry, ME based Borealis Press uses derives from wind energy. I guess like the Stetson mountain…

This aired on Maine Public Radio. By far the most comprehensive discussion of energy and electricity so far in the campaign. It is almost two hours long, but worth hearing, for sure.

Met Tower on Peaks Island

Now we have a met tower up on Peaks Island. As a property owner on an island close to Peaks, I am not pleased. It is not enough to destroy our mountains where I live in western Maine. Now the aim is for the islands to have wind energy. Can you picture the islands of Casco Bay and the other bays up and down the coast being covered with wind turbines? Little or no thought goes into the aftermath of the degradation of the beauty of our State of Maine. How long… Continue

Iberdrola CEO Finally Admits To Real Reason Behind $1.4 Billion Maine Power Reliability Project: WIND

Iberdrola: "Let's experiment on Maine"

The primary reason for the $1.4 billion upgrade is so that wind farms can transport their electrons from disfigured Maine mountains to Mass and Ct. where they can power giant screen TV's and air conditioned McMansions when nobody's home. Great.

Yet when this project was "sold in" to us, it was done so under the entirely false pretense of aging lines. See:

State's Only Wind Turbine Experiment Marks 500th Day

Today marks the 500th day of operation of the UMPI wind turbine, the state's only experiment in this technology which creates enormous impact across the state and virtually no benefit. After 500 days, only 10.8% of capacity has been attained. These are very clear and compelling results that argue for a revisitation of all the bloated industrial wind claims within the context of the damage to Mainers, the damage to our environment and the negative economic effects that will result from the…

Help block federal rollback of Maine's law keeping ocean windmill wannabees at least ten miles offshore

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) has come to Maine and is determined to force the state to re-write its new state law protecting Maine commercial fishermen from windmills encroachment within ten miles of shore. Under the state law, the Maine Public Utilities Commission has…

UMPI Spins Turbine - Get Out The Microscope

UMPI has added a new feature to the page on its website that provides data for its wind turbine - the page now includes a spinning turbine. UMPI turbine website reports dismal power output in hottest weather

For the past ten days (9-11 to 9/20) the UMPI turbine produced an average of 688.4 KWH per day. This period included some of the hottest days on record - there was essentially no wind most of the time on Sept 11,12, 13, 14, or 15. If Presque Isle residents saw the blades turning, it was either just to look good or perhpas to keep the shaft from warping.

Wind does not displace coal, or any other fuel in today's grid.

Wind power is a false promise. Its easy to put a turbine on a mountain top. The hard part is getting the grid to try to regulate fossil fuel generators in response to the erratic, unpredictable and uncontrollable output of wind turbines. The ISO-NE grid has been studying wind integration for several years. It has outlined a number of issues that must be solved for wind to be effectively used as capacity. Storage, massive new transmission projects, dependable wind forecasts, smart grid,… Continue

NRCM calls for Maine mountain top removal, so that West Virginians will stop removing their mountaintops.

Pete Didisheim at NRCM is busy today trying the spin of calling anti-windmill activists supporters of mountaintop mining, heartlessly willing to let Appalachian children suffer so long as their Maine views are not marred.

Asked for a response by the BDN's Abigail Curtis, I noted that mountaintop removal for the profit of energy companies is as bad an idea here as in West Virginia. Two wrongs don['t make a right.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
