Tux Turkel: Cold snap tested reliability of region’s power grid and arguments against fossil fuels

Note that this article glosses over extremely expensive capacity payments associated with wind and solar, as well as their tremendous transmission and taxpayer expenses.

Solar panels were covered with snow and wind turbines were buffeted by storms......“We were definitely on the brink,” said Matt Kakley, an ISO-NE spokesman. “Had the cold snap continued longer or had there been further outages in the region, it was definitely possible that (rolling blackouts)…

Dark Skies: Advocates push Maine as astrotourism destination Maine Sunday Telegram)

Rollins Lights

Turbine lights on Rocky Dundee seen from Upper Pond (Gary Campbell)

Yet another reason not to have flashing thunderous wind turbines throughout Maine defiling what we have to enrich foreign investors tapping our treasury and raping ratepayers.

The state's many precious resources include the largest light-pollution-free swath in the eastern half of the U.S.
A new effort is underway to protect it with 'dark sky' designations…

The World Meteorological Organization Predicts 2018 Will Be The WARMEST EVER!!

More non-scientific drivel from the far leftist WMO that says the last 5 years have each one been hotter than those before, and 2018 is going to set new records. We are in big trouble!!!!!!, IF you believe their lies. Our own weather charters, NOAA, fudged their data in 2015 to show a rise right before Obama went rough and signed the Paris Accord without Congressional approval. The good part of that was Trump was able to pull the plug just as…

New Maine group: CMP Ratepayers Unite

Since this group has organized as a ratepayer watchdog, it would be worthwhile to meet with them and let them know how ratepayers have been even more abused by the legislature and enviro groups.  This looks like a good opportunity to open the eyes of what appears to be a significant audience. They may in fact be quite aware of the ratepayer abuses we have dealt with for now 10 years. However, we should not leave this to chance.

Gov LePage: Maine Has an Exciting Opportunity To Reduce Energy Costs

Radio Address: Maine Has an Exciting Opportunity To Reduce Energy Costs

May 17, 2018

I have been talking about the need to reduce energy prices for nearly eight years. Maine is a manufacturing state, and high energy prices have a direct and negative affect on the cost of doing business and the ability to create good-paying jobs.

Hello, this is Governor Paul LePage.

Central Maine Power Company won the proposal to create a transmission line to deliver electricity…

Views clash as DEP readies greenhouse gas reduction forced by citizen initiative

Attorneys, students and other supporters of 8% annual cuts in emissions say urgent action is needed, but industries call the proposed standards unrealistic and warn of a severe impact and business shutdowns.

Tapping a little-used section of state law, a grassroots group of attorneys and activists submitted nearly 700 petition signatures from registered voters calling for tougher standards on emissions of carbon dioxide and other climate-warming gases. As a…

UMPI Wind Turbine Fire Update

Vestas will be offering UMPI cost estimates for several different options, including decommissioning the turbine and replacing it with another turbine, Rice said.

“If we were to decommission the turbine, we’d want to replace it with a renewable energy system that would provide similar energy and cost savings,” Rice said.

Those other renewable energy options could include solar panels, although officials with UMPI and the University of Maine…

We Don't Need Solar And Wind To Save The Climate -- And It's A Good Thing, Too

Basically this article is supportive of nuclear energy, but it has some other good points and facts. And gives the real data for contradicting the Denmark and Germany wind energy fable of happily ever after.

We now know that, in the real world, electricity grid managers cope with the unreliability of solar by firing up petroleum and natural gas generators.

As such — while there might be good reasons to continue to subsidize the production of solar…

Maine Cited In Washington Wind Turbine Tourism Study

Energy sprawl threatens Kittitas County tourism

Washington's Governor, Jay Inslee, Commented "As a state, we could learn from Maine’s moratorium on permits for new wind turbines. Gauging effects on rural tourism is an important issue for our state. “We cannot afford to damage our natural assets in ways that would deter visitors from returning,” according to Gov. Paul LePage."…

Shock Study: Climate Skeptics More ‘Eco-Friendly’ than Climate Alarmists

First, there is a tendency among those who believe they are on the “right side” of an issue at the macro (governmental, social) level to be negligent in the same area at the micro or personal level, an instance of a phenomenon known in psychology as “moral licensing” or “self-licensing.”

By supporting government action in a given area, people may feel morally legitimatized to cut corners at the…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
