BDN - What a SunEdison bankruptcy would mean for Maine

The fate is less clear for other projects in its pipeline, such as the massive 600-megawatt King Pine project proposed for land in the Unorganized Territory northwest of Houlton on the border of Aroostook and Penobscot counties.

PISGAH MTN LLC TRIES FOR A 'PROTECTIVE ORDER' FROM THE MPUC

Thank you those who have made comments to the PUC relating to Pisgah Mtn LLC being morphed into Austrian wind company WEB and how that looks to be contrary to the intent of the Community-Based Renewable Energy Program. Today Pisgah filed a new motion with the PUC asking for all information to be kept confidential. In other words, asking the PUC to not expose their attempt to conceal the LLC's lack of financing.

If you can, please go to the Maine PUC website and go to case file…

MAINE PUC PUBLISHES ANNUAL RENEWABLE ENERGY REPORT

This is an interesting read - An honest disclosure of wind production and renewable impact in Maine.  Two things to note - the value of our declining biomass production related to meeting our Class I renewables mandate - and also that hydro is classified as a Class II renewable!  It took a lot of planning and manipulation to get things stacked in favor of wind and solar!…

NY Revises Code of Conduct for Wind Energy Companies

"According to the A.G., these disclosure requirements deter improper relationships between wind development companies and local government officials, such as improperly sought land-use agreements with citizens and public officials, and improper benefits being given to public officials to influence their official actions relating to wind farm development."..........

Near-shore offshore wind farms would have huge (negative) impact on coastal tourism

“There was a lot of support for wind energy, but no one was willing to pay more to see wind turbines from the beach by their vacation rental property. And if turbines are built close to shore, most people said they would choose a different vacation location where they wouldn’t have to see turbines."…

Gov LePage: Company On Verge of Shedding 900 Southern Maine Jobs Due To High Energy Costs

The governor said energy costs were driving the unnamed company out.

“Again, it’s about energy costs for that company,” he said. “The biggest single issue is they’re competing against Chinese nuclear power, and they’re in Maine with the No. 12 energy costs in America.”…

Few know UPC First Wind so well as First Wind project neighbors, James Hall and his lovely wife, Judi, along with Alice, the most incredible and tireless researcher, and other concerned citizens at Cohocton Wind.  They delivered the goods on First Wind years ago and they're going strong.  God Bless Them!

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
