Sen. Alfond’s wind energy stance begs tough questions (PPH)

Excerpt:

During his impassioned presentation, Alfond voiced displeasure with critics who’ve questioned the ethical standing of his sponsorship of L.D. 1750. For a moment, his voice cracked.

He then turned and threw Commissioner Patricia Aho and the Department of Environmental Protection under the bus, charging the DEP with unreliability, inconsistency and a lack of transparency when evaluating his cronies’ wind permits.

LD 616 - The voice of the people is not a “layer of bureaucracy" as thought by legislators (PPH)

All Maine residents' input on wind power deserves to be heard

EXCERPT:

"Opponents of this bill spoke at length of the benefits we would realize from wind energy, but only when pressed by Rep. Larry Dunphy, R-Embden, did any comment on the issue of citizen rights. Many persisted in ignoring that point.

Those who did address the question expressed regret for this consequence, but went on to describe the inconvenience of allowing local residents to be…

BDN - Southern Maine Dems Suppressing Citizen Rights and Interfering with DEP

The suspicious timing of this bill is as bizarre as the bill itself. It looks like a favor to the wind industry so specific projects can qualify for "free" taxpayer money.

Clyde MacDonald and Michael Smith on Wind (BDN)

Clyde MacDonald

As a lifelong Democrat, I am concerned about the inroads out-of-state wind corporations have made on our politics. The latest example is Democratic Senate President Justin Alfond’s bill that I call the “Corporate Windpower Revenge Act.” It would, in effect, retaliate against the Department of Environmental Protection for rejecting two questionable wind power site applications and against Maine residents who wish to have their concerns taken…

Scientifically Challenged

I have a new argument for those who choose to believe that Global Climate Change is "Settled Science".

How many of those same people believe that "Gravity" is settled science? It is NOT SETTLED SCIENCE!!!!! It is in fact a THEORY. It is a theory that has been challenged by the likes of Albert Einstien and others that I'm almost SURE are more scientist than the hacks at the IPCC and NOAA. I would put them miles ahead of pseudo scientists like the other Albert, Albert GORE.

I think…

Wind energy: Chalk it up as a loss

Wind energy: Chalk it up as a loss

Excerpt:

...it was only two years ago that anyone who publicly opposed wind turbines was considered a social pariah and practically ostracised from society as if they were modern-day lepers. Things have changed. Not a day goes by without a new story slamming wind energy or highlighting the increasing wind farm opposition across the UK. Just as it was once popular to support wind energy, it has almost...almost...become…

Hannah Pingree on the Maine expedited wind law

Hannah Pingree - Director of Maine's Office of Innovation and the Future

"Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine."

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
