The action would be a major pullback from state law requiring that utilities must obtain a quarter of their energy from renewable sources by 2025................. The higher standards “will cost millions of dollars,” said Rep. Michael Harrington, R-Strafford “and that costs jobs. Every time you raise the cost of electricity you lose jobs.”
But it is not just the money, he added. People could pay more to use renewable but haven’t. Instead, the state was “forcing people to…

Here is a report prepared for the Natural Resources Council of Maine making argument for the closure of Maine biomass electric plants.
Biomass plants qualify as RPS Class I Renewable Resource along with Wind Plants.
Small biomass plants in Maine account for nearly 90% of the State's required Class I Renewable Credit
Biomass electricity is a dispatchable resource.
Why NOT the closure of…

“Maine’s moratorium is part of much bigger picture or wider movement,” said Droz. “What happened in Maine is a continuation of a broader movement of concerned citizens taking place in numerous communities across the country.
“Increasingly, citizens are raising objections to new wind turbines out of concern wind turbines can adversely affect the health of nearby citizens and reduce the value of their property,” Droz said, citing a 2011 study by the Institute for Noise Control…

I can not say stress this fact enough to the public...........Lying by omission is routine with wind energy research and our colluding government agencies. We are talking about endangered species. They live in and at this planned wind project site and everybody is lying about it. I only had a portion during two days to look over the research submitted for this project and put together my comments. As a result I did not put this information in my comments. …

Impacts to scenic character from a wind energy development’s associated facilities are generally evaluated in the manner set forth in the WEA, 35-A M.R.S. §3452 (1) & (3).
However, if the Department determines that application of the WEA…

CMP’s “New England Clean Energy Connect” Transmission Line Proposal - February 21, 2018
EXCERPTS:
Maine and New England need to increase the use of renewable power to further reduce fossil fuel burning and meet our critically important greenhouse gas reduction goals. However, there are many ways to achieve that objective. First and foremost, we should look to new renewable energy…

The Nature Conservancy is a massive organization and a global player.
You'll find a description of their organization and their methodology for assessing the impact of hydroelectric generating plants on 'nature'. This affects FERC relicensing of all Maine plants up for renewal; Maine is the second largest hydro generator in New England.
There is one slide listing all the impacts a hydroplant has; it could serve as a template for measuring the impact of a wind…

Vermont has a Standard Offer, SO, program that uses federal, state and other subsidies and feed-in tariffs, c/kWh, in excess of wholesale prices to increase the build-out renewable energy systems. Most of those systems are large-scale, field-mounted solar systems. The Public Utilities Commission, PUC, oversees the program and issues a Certificate of Public Good for each project. This article examines the economics of a large-scale solar system.
This article examines the…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT
******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********
(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
