Long term Contracts With Intermittent Resources like Wind and Solar Disruptive To The Market and Costing Ratepayers Millions.

From The ISO-NE Newswire January 8, 2018 :

"Over the past decade, the New England states have sought to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet climate goals through various mechanisms outside of the ISOadministered competitive wholesale markets. These mechanisms include mandates that state-regulated utilities enter into long-term contracts with renewable resource developers.4 These out-of-market actions could have adverse consequences for FCM. Specifically, resources that…

Gigantic Mass RFP Coming - first projects to be selected in about two weeks (Jan 25, 2018)

The bids are broken up into two sections, 83D and 83C, the latter covering offshore wind. In many cases, the information on the bids themselves is so heavily redacted, that in terms of supplying information to the public, it is a worthless charade. In other words, in some cases, gargantuan projects which a company has been working on for perhaps five years, are still cloaked in deep secrecy. This is so by the time a project is actually announced and an application in Maine is filed, the…

Will Global Warming Freeze Us to Death?? (from BDN)

David Emerson is a professional scientist at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences who studies bacteria that live literally between a rock and a hard place.

But I am a little perplexed by his "scientific" credentials.

Here is what I commented:

Hey Mr. Emerson;

You are a scientist? You study oceans? Have you happened to be on any of the recent voyages in the last decade to study the North and…

New England Liberals Shut Down Coal Power Plants, Now They’re at Risk of Freezing

Officials at ISO-New England, operators of the region’s power grid, said energy demands during the recent arctic weather have placed major pressures on energy generators, forcing power companies to rely more on coal and oil to produce electricity,” the Hartford Courant reported this week.

New England's blind unscientific devotion to…

Straight from the horse's mouth

A while back, our local paper The Record Searchlight, was bought out by USA Today. A few days before this Dec 28 story hit, the author called me and we talked about this newly planned wind energy project. The call lasted for about 20 minutes. I also sent him 3 emails with attachments and proof at specific links, of this industry's research rigging. There were no follow-up questions from Arthur Damon, emails or that this story would even be posted. I found out about the story…

Senator Collins and former Governor Baldacci both related UMPI wind turbine to reducing dependence on OIL

Seriously Senator? Seriously Governor?

Your letters lauding UMPI's wind turbine would seem to indicate you simply don't know what you are talking about and should not be allowed to influence energy decisions. Got any new statements on the university's wind turbine debacle as it is soon to begin its 10th year of operation?…

Did UMPI get a new wind turbine or upgrade which somehow escaped the Maine media?

RRB Energy Ltd.PS-600 wind turbine has been upgraded to a Vestas 47??? If so, what was the cost? What was the funding source? How much has been spent to date on this turbine since it was conceived? Does "upgraded to a Vestas 47" mean the nacelle has been replaced? If the turbine (presumably at least the nacelle???) has been replaced, what happened to the old one? How much did UMPI get for this? Has ANY news about The UM's possible purchase of a new wind turbine or component been reported in…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
