When will renewable energy lower our electricity costs in Maine?

Supply Rates reflect a State's Renewable Energy Policies. More Policies, Higher Rates.

Can you guess which New England State is foregoing ridiculous renewable energy policies?…

Another Policy Program that Needs to be on the Chopping Block

REC purchases are the method used by Electricity Suppliers (includes the Standard Offer Supplier) to comply with Maine Policy Renewable Standards. The suppliers must buy RECs at an annual growing percentage of supply. For 2025, the percentage must be 61%

The chart below shows the change in the average cost of RECs paid by suppliers correspondingly attached to the supply portion cost of electric bills.

If Not for the Fear of Human-caused Global Warming.

" Few utilities would build wind and solar systems if not for the fear of human-caused global warming. But the new executive orders make it clear that the US will no longer pursue efforts to “mitigate” climate change."

The Real Value of Solar Generation.

In order to find out what the real value of solar generation is, it must be set up to compete in an unbiased marketplace.

ISO-NE has recently changed up their rules to have solar (mostly 5 MW or more) offer a day ahead megawatt quantity at a proposed price, like all other resources are required to do.

With a somewhat level playing field (after all solar receives many out-of-market subsidies that allows them to bid $0), the value of solar generation, seen…

Tariff the solar and wind developments in Maine

No doubt, President Trump is going to heavily tariff solar panels coming from foreign trading partners and remove federal tax incentives and direct subsidies to solar and wind projects, but Maine could also jump upon the bandwagon and tariff existing and future solar and wind developments and stop the excessive burden on ratepayers.
As everyone knows, Maine is…

The lawful exercise of discretion may be appealed to the Law Court

The Maine PUC as directed by a Democrat Majority Legislature in 2021 changed their "Statement of Purpose"  to read:

Note: the underlined statement was added, which significantly changed the purpose of the PUC

How To Keep Quiet, Maine People Suffering from Public Policy Electricity Costs

The word spreading around the Maine State House is " How are we to shut up the people hurting the most from high electric bills?"

Enter the Low Income Assistance Program ( LIAP ). Ratepayer and taxpayers were hit for $24 million dollars in 2024 to service this "buyout of silence" which includes over 47,000 fellow Mainers struggling with electric bills.
Now, some of the people of the Maine State House want all Mainers with reported income below 150%…

The Coming Termination of Natural Gas for Maine

Can you imagine a program that will put an end to natural gas use in Maine? There are public servants in Augusta( to be left unnamed) who are creeping towards doing just that with the backing of certain unnamed environmental groups. Of course, companies in the natural gas business present a problem, customers are also a problem, but, the whispers of stranded costs are being muttered among the activists. Stranded…

If this isn't collusion, what is?

Does this bill seem like it is a make work to maintain the survival of the GEO?  ISO-NE operates the transmission system and is paid to engineer applicable infrastructure needed. Maine has plenty of electricity delivery infrastructure and any additional transmission in Maine would probably only benefit States south of us. The GEO must be abolished, and this bill should be amended to state that.

Resolve, to Direct the Governor's Energy Office to Conduct a…

A Whiny Republican is not Impressed with the Choir or the CTFOWP

Here is the list of bills submitted to the EUT Committee as of 1-23-2025

And here is what one whiny Republican EUT Committee emailed me about our website CTFOWP:

"As I've often told my good friend ,NAME WITHHELD, the information he shares, NAME WITHHELD is invaluable, but he's often preaching to the choir. I think the same can be said with much of your effort. Despite what this blog and others…

To beat the Augusta Elites, One must understand their "Plan"

As the elites in Augusta develop their "Non-Plan" to stop the imagined threat of carbon dioxide poisoning the atmosphere and turning the planet into some sort of greenhouse. How do these schemes, er, "Non-Plans" work?

First, they tried to convince everyone that the "plan" to incorporate efficiency measures, which if you participate, you pay for some of it with monetary help from neighbors, even though your neighbors will not see it in electric…

Make Maine and America Great Again

Where are the bills? President Trump has ordered the demise of wind projects, but even this wind bigly blowing on their backs, the feeble Republicans of Maine remain motionless, stymied and completely lacking courage.

So far two bills regarding renewable energy have been assigned to the EUT Committee. A bill to terminate Net Energy Billing that should include tariffs on all NEB projects to provide reparations to ratepayers who have no NEB participation…

The "Green Scam"

ISO-NE made a big deal when they instituted a rule that has wind and solar projects bidding into the day ahead market. This is all fine as long as they perform according to their load offer(s). Because they can also offer bids in the five minute market( real time market), one would think they would be conservative with their day ahead bids so as not to be caught unable to supply their bid offer.

Climate activists will tell you that wind and solar put downward pressure on day ahead…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
