WHY THE MAINE LEGISLATURE HAS THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT AND DUTY TO ASK FOR A MORATORIUM ON WIND PROJECTS.

On page 15 of the " Report of The Governor's Task force on wind power development" one can read the following paragraph;

Confusion over the benefits of wind power development. Wind power displaces

electricity generated from fossil fuels and reduces emissions of atmospheric greenhouse

gases and a variety of other pollutants (SOx, NOx, mercury, etc.). However, because backup

plants, many of which burn fossil fuels, are needed for when wind velocities are low,

there has been some confusion among both the public and decision-makers over whether and

the degree to which these benefits really exist. This confusion needs to be clarified

dispositively so that the regulatory process can focus on real environmental issues.

Seven years later and after years of demands  of such action by CTFWP , this issue has NEVER been addressed.

In view of the immense mental , physical ,and financial consequences imposed on the victims of wind power in Maine , it is not farfetched to say that the absence of pursuing the knowledge of whether or not the emission benefits of wind power in Maine are clearly established by the Maine Legislature constitutes a legislative malpractice carried over several Legislature sessions under both Parties.

Mainers must flood their  Representatives with the simple dual demand of establishing a moratorium on further  wind projects and then respond to the request established in the above paragraph of the Report of  the Governor task force on Wind Power.

That request was written in 2008,  Mainers have time ...years on their side to urgently support that concern.

Remember back in days of Dr. Mills' denial of acoustic impacts in Mars Hill and response to 'threat' of moratorium until health effects where identified, Littell actually corrected her grossly conflated figures for NOx and SOx offsets of wind generation. National Acad Sci/ National Research Council said the same - no benefit under 'cap and trade' which Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is. NOx and SOx were already in steep decline, leaving CO2 (to which electric generation is minor even including southern New Engl states only. That does leave particulates from coal and mercury from GLOBAL coal fired plants. There are very few on oil, and they are to address RELIABILITY. It was of interest to read the governor before Patrick on infrastructure reliability. There are some solutions besides 24/7 conventional fossil availability but they are often even more distasteful to adamantly pro-wind environmental organizations. Unfortunately more and more rural homeowners buy their own generators; there's AvGas generation deployed in a at over Gov. protest and there are shipping container-sized generators spewing. Look at pre-05 values. maybe storage will smooth the impacts of variable resources out, but that's a dream and currently storage is almost as space-hungry as turbines and transmission.

What is certain is that consumers will pay the price.

Thanks, Monique, I will do that....everyone should!!

I briefly spoke to someone studying energy and the environment and wished I had asked him more when I told him I was opposed to wind energy and he said it was not being used correctly and should not be on the grid- why should it be anywhere then? I wish I had asked what he meant-

Back up generation must be kept up and running 24/7, which doubles the generation costs for rate payers.  Wind power can't displace fossil fuels until some sort of energy storage is devised.  Perhaps all our legislators should live off grid for a year or two, without any battery back up, until they have a good grasp of the limitations of renewables.

TRUE JACQUELINE , BUT THEY WILL ONLY DO THEIR JOB IF THEY ARE FORCED TO, so Maine residents who find the Wind Law abhorrent  and refuse to see their state becoming a wind plantation to feed  Southern New England  city lights should get on their computer , cut and paste the paragraph I mentioned in the post , email it to their Representatives and DEMAND that they finally act upon it. From North to  South and West to East.

Post this on your Facebook Page , email this to your friends.

Thanks for pointing that out.  The Legislature should be doing its job.

House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
