UMS Board of Trustees Approved UMPI Turbine in "Lovefest"
"The University prepared carefully for a discussion of the wind project at the September meeting of the Trustees. It asked permission for a $2 million total cost project that would install a mid-size wind turbine on campus property. The president and CFO were armed with data and prepared for the wide variety of questions that the project could legitimately have raised, including the possibility of instinctive dislike of wind power or too bold a campus entrepreneurial activity. Instead of a grilling, UMPI encountered a love fest."

For the past 5 1/2 months the UMPI website has failed to report any information on its actual power output, wind speed at rotor height, bearing temperatures, roter rpm, and voltage. Just ZEROES, ZEROES, ZEROES, AND A PROMISE TO BE WORKING "NEXT WEEK". THIS HAS GONE ON SINCE FEBRUARY 19.
The turbine was reported as "operating" a few weeks ago, but no data about the turbine has been posted except for the local weather, unrelated to the turbine.
Has the entire admistration and faculty gone away for the summer? President Zillman has found the time to author a book on the legalities of wind power, but he cannot seem to fix this situation. Maybe he does not care. The public was lavishly promised a transparent site on the UMPI turbine, but we are getting nothing but stale, hyped news articles from the past and a meaningless promise that the site "will be working next week". Who is minding the store?
