What is Going on at the Maine PUC?
- The New England Aqua Ventus Project hasn't gone away. New filings with the PUC, (Case # 2022-00100) now presented by Pine Tree Offshore Wind LLC (PTOW), includes a term sheet that the public cannot see because the PUC and PTOW have a confidentiality agreement. Nonetheless PTOW is preparing a final term sheet to be filed with the PUC for secret approval by March 2025.
- Have you heard of Time of Use rates? Case # 2024-00231 " Commission Inquiry of Time of Use Rates for Delivery and Standard Offer" Is considering whether it is best for electricity customers to be charged by the time of day they use electricity.
- The PUC asks if such a dramatic rate change should become an Opt-Out mandate. Remember "Electricity Maine"?
- Central Maine Power responded "........ some customers may view an opt-out program as an attempt by CMP or the MPUC to mandate lifestyle behaviors that are linked to their electricity usage patterns."
- The Natural Resources Council of Maine responded "...... we encourage the Commission to be vigilant about the implications, and creative in considering innovations, for evolving a demand-side market in Maine." Oh, those Smart Meters are getting Smarter

- The traditional January rate increase is being finalized by the PUC and CMP for delivery charges. Case # 2022-00152. The new fixed system charge for residential class would go from $26.60 to $27.37 and the per kilowatt hour charge would go from $0.108980 per KWh to $0.128030 per KWh. The Standard Offer supply rate drops ever so slightly from $0.106363 per KWh to $0.106128 per KWh.
- The State of Maine Government Enacted Public Policies have managed to make delivery of electricity more expensive than supply(generation).

The sooner politically connected, holy-cow, Aqua Ventus ceases to exist, and stops sucking from the government tits, the better for the long-suffering, over-regulated, over-taxed Maine people, who are trying to make ends meet in a near-zero, real-growth Maine economy, recently burdened by thousands of coddled illegal aliens who increase crime, increase social unrest, and drive down the wages of low-income workers.
