Subject: URGENT - AWEA et al are turning up the heat on 1603
WARNING -- the below message was circulated to Congressional House members moments ago.
Write your Congressional delegation. Tell them NO MORE SUPPORT for Section 1603. We can't afford it.
The 1603 grants, due to expire end of this year, have already cost us $10 billion dollars -- most to big wind. Total costs are expected to be nearly $20 billion.
Thanks.

Dear Colleague,

Please join us in support of the 1603 Treasury Grant Program, which provides grant funding in place of a tax credit for renewable energy and accelerates the deployment of clean energy technologies.  This valuable program has leveraged more than $22.8 billion in private sector investment for 22,000 projects across the clean energy industry, including solar, wind, biomass, fuel cells, combined heat-and-power, and hydro, in all 50 states.  If Congress fails to act, the grant program will expire at the end of 2011, shrinking the total financing available for renewable energy projects by 52 percent and eliminating tens of thousands of jobs across clean energy industries.

Join us, and over 750 small businesses, companies, and trade organizations in asking the leadership of the House of Representatives to extend this valuable, job-creating program. If you would like to sign this letter please contact Sam Ricketts with the House Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition (SEEC) at 5-6311 or Sam.Ricketts@mail.house.gov; Carla McGarvey with Rep. Thompson (5-3311, Carla.McGarvey@mail.house.gov); or Libby O’Hare with Rep. Holt (5-5801, Libby.OHare@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

See my additional information on 1603 cash grants blog.  Join our Congressman John Kline of Minnesota in calling for an end of 1603 money for wind development.  Contact your Congressmen to join him add your name to the john Kline letter by e-mailing his office.  Obama wants to extend the PTC and the 1603 cash grants as part of his fix the economy package.  There are many things the government can do to create jobs without subsidizing billionaires.

WIND is asking for both..shut them both off......1603 grants and PTC...tell them

The word is out. Industrial wind turbines are highly destructive junk that cannot fill the bill. Feeding the big-wind pigeons has led to an unnecessary financial and environmental mess. The 1603 grant has to go before it inspires anymore mindless and irresponsible pigs.

It is all very confusing but are government has been throwing tax dollars at wind developers hand over fist.  My understanding is that the 1603 grant for renewable wind energy projects allows the developer to chose between taking a production tax credit eaach year for the first ten years of a project's life or they can now opt for a one time payment equal to 30 percent of their investment in a project. This allows them to pocket 33 million dollars if they begin construction of a 100 million dollar project before the end of this year. The 1603 grant currently expires this year 2011.  The PTC expires the end of 2012.   Either could be extended.     Rick

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
