Hi Folks --
Well, the election results were a little disappointing regarding the PTC, but not as bad as you might think.
We didn't win on Tuesday, BUT we didn't lose either!
In fact, the post-election landscape looks exactly the same vis-a-vis the PTC as pre-election:
  • The balance of power in D.C. remains unchanged;
  • The fiscal crisis bearing down on the U.S. still looms;
  • And we still can't afford an extension of the PTC.
The House will be back in Washington beginning next week and we can expect negotiations to begin in earnest regarding the debt-ceiling, tax extenders, tax reform and the scheduled austerity cuts.
No matter what AWEA claims, it will be tough for wind energy to compete.
It will be our job to make sure Congress understands NO MEANS NO!
Our Colleagues in Michigan helped our national narrative tremendously by securing an overwhelming defeat of big wind's '25 by 2025' ballot initiative that would have expanded Michigan's RPS mandate via a constitutional amendment. Proponents (including AWEA) were outspent 2:1 by critics who made clear a 25% RPS would be untenable.
Michigan matters since it's home to Dave Camp (R-MI), chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and Fred Upton (R-MI) chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
I hope we can work together in the coming weeks to engage nationally once again. I will be back in touch in the next week with details. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate.
All the best,
--Lisa

When the developer takes the cash in lieu of the PTC it increases debt. Solar does not lend itself as easily as wind to the corporate world. It seems like most people could have solar panels on their rooftops but corporate types do not want that many hands in their till. Keeping the  carbon costs of wind turbines hidden helps the pro wind cabal sucker the politicians who do not seem able to fact check the wind industry's wild claims. Big impacts, not enough energy to make a difference, and when hydro is replaced ZERO carbon reduction.

     It will take a lot of pressure to keep the PTC from being renewed.   These tax credits are sold as revenue neutral because no actual government revenue is expended.   With no real alternative to fossil fuel wind is the political "golden child".   We need a real CO2 free alternative energy source and it is the LFTR.   See thorium alliance.  Safe clean nuclear power that is cheaper than coal.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
