If this passes, it will be a nail in the coffin of Maine Solar Interests. Certainly Gov LePage will do the right thing and veto it if it does not go the way it should, and they would probably be hard pressed to over ride the veto.
Quite simply, the home solar business counts on their customers being able to sell the extra power back to the grid. While this seems noble, in actually it hurts the power producers, uses their transmission lines and stations without paying for them, and we the ratepayer without solar installations end up paying for those expenses. We the taxpayer also pay for the subsidies paid for those panels to be installed on rooftops so we are getting a double whammy from the people that think they are getting free power.
What is interesting in the article is to see the amount of solar in Maine compared to the other New England states. We are a minuscule pimple on their proverbial a**. Yet to listen to the guys commenting in the newspaper articles like Mike White, you would think Solar was spread far and wide.
