So who did the original poll that showed that 90% of Mainers were in support of wind towers?? It seems very high to me -- but maybe that's just my biased opinion of what the state thinks. Is it possible to repeat this poll - surely it has to come in lower than 90% - especially if it's done by someone who is not specfically 'pro-wind' --

We really need to know how much money NRCM and Maine Audabon have taken from First Wind. After the 1.7 million dollars became known from developers to LURC..First Wind was unavailable for comment.

Where is the Attorney General? We have moved away from a newspaper story of odd events a long time ago. Now some fishermen are saying off shore wind will hurt their industry. They propaganda is beginning. Comment on BDN said fishing was a 19th century way of earning a living. Definately an out of stater. The AG office is investigating the fishing industry for price fixing. I never remember them investigating anything. Seems like they are just answering to baldaci and the gang. and not public interest.

"The state always pulls the same people in as "stakeholders"

The only stake that counts is the one we'll put through the heart of this industry when when we drive them out of our beloved Maine.

Martha, it is not the Kennebec River that runs through Augusta, it is De-nile! It is criminal what incestuous relationships exist in Augusta and the incredible effort to keep the citizens of this state from gaining access to information or having any meaningful participation. The state always pulls the same people in as "stakeholders" (like NRCM & Maine Audubon). When are the citizens whose rights are trampled and who are negatively impacted by sprawling industrial wind sites going to have "stakeholder" status? Who's state is this, anyway? First Wind? Iberdrola? They have their asses kissed while the citizens get their asses kicked!

Alan Michka...thank you for your research.

NRCM is a non profit which has public and private clients. They filed for intervenor status for the Stetson Mt wind farm. We, who live around the mountain , could not even reach First Wind, out of Bangor , by phone prior to permitting. We used the Mass and ME number we were given by Marcia Famous of LURC. On the day , app. 2 months after we started calling, our phone call was returned...it was Matt Kearn, project manager for the Mars Hill and Stetson wind farm. He agreed to meet with us. When he came out , we had a meeting in our town hall. Matt could only answer about 5 questions. Seeemed to draw a blank of Mars Hill, even though he was project manager.

The day he came out May 22, '07 was the last day to file intervenor status with LURC. Emminent domain for transmission lines passed in the Legislature that day.It seemed orchestrated with NRCM and all given a green light by LURC ..and obstacles thrown in front of private citizens .

In fact checking for NRCM 's intervenor status...I found it on First Wind's own website. They proudly announced commissioning the Audabon Society to do bird and bat studies. They also paid for the noise studies for their wind farm in Mars Hill which DEP accepted. An outside auditor later declared the noise studies bogus.

It seems to be common sense that if your employer commisions a study..in order to get future work..you just might slant the outcome. Why does DEP and LURC allow this? What function does the govt. have in all this? At the least , it seems they would allow a level playing field. They have the money for the Wind Task Force and projects to promote wind energy in ME. But no money to insure they are honest and good for the state.

I guess the only way to know for sure is to find out how much money LURC , DEP, the Audabon Society and NRCM has taken from First Wind. They cannot be reached at this time. This is so circular. Will they pick up the phone after the transmission lines are in place? Their financial statement says Bangor Hydor and Central Maine Electric will split the cost. PUC has not given them permission. But, as always private citizens are the last to know.

Currently, the AG office denies their is a problem . Denies there are complaints. DEP's Robin Cluky also was the govt project manager for Mars Hill. She stated she had never even been to the wind farm. There were no formal complaints. Wendy Todd of Mars Hill had met with Robin, her boss, and the regional director to nail down what exactly constituted a formal complain. Robin continued to say there were no complaints. Misstatements this blatant have to be sanctioned from the very top.

How much money did NRCM get from First Wind?

Polls are of no use except for propaganda as the print and TV news only give one side of the issue.

They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
