Help understanding TIF's........

First Wind is having an informational meeting at our town office on January 18th. I think my husband and I will be in the minority - NOT IN FAVOR - of towers being put up on Bower's Mtn., leased land from Bower's Mtn, LLC. Most people seen either not to care - or to be in support of them. The Town Clerk - is thrilled - it means an influx of cash and will help us offset the increasing taxes. Unfortunately - I have a feeling that a lot of people will agree with her, especially if FW begins… Continue

Straw Proposals.....

Regarding the straw proposals --- I forwarded the link to Lynne Williams, Esq. (she is also running as the green candidate for Governor). She is representing the 'Friends of Lincoln Lakes' and our group - 'Partnership for the Preservation of the Downeast Lakes Watershed' in this struggle against the onslaught of 'BIG WIND'. (See her reply below) She is going to go back and figure out where she got 2007 from -- but hopefully she's right and it's a dead issue.

DOC rule making meeting....

Does anyone have more information regarding the nature of a DOC meeting in Augusta on 1/12/10 - comment deadline is 1/25/10. It appears to be a rule making meeting regarding Proposed 04-056 Chapter 3 "Designated scenic viewpoints ..... for consideration in the permitting of expedited wind energy development'. It was forwarded to me - so I am not sure where on the DOC page to find more info on it.

While perusing the DOC webpage - I came across a link to 'straw proposals' -- #3 is… Continue

New Poll......

Is there any thought about having a new poll done? By a more neutral pollster? I'm not sure if it would help stop these projects and realize that it might not work in our favor -- but surely it's got to be better than the '90% in favor' that the proponents keep throwing around.

Poll about wind towers....

So who did the original poll that showed that 90% of Mainers were in support of wind towers?? It seems very high to me -- but maybe that's just my biased opinion of what the state thinks. Is it possible to repeat this poll - surely it has to come in lower than 90% - especially if it's done by someone who is not specfically 'pro-wind' --

Highlands Plantation....

I just got forwarded a 'Notice of Intent to file a Development Permit Application' - originally sent out by Marcia Spencer-Famous. This is for a 48 utility scale wind turbines in Highland Plantation, Me - permit is supposed to be in around December 18, 2009 and will include timing and rules for a request for a public hearing. Not sure if anyone is specifically fighting this -- I am going to go ahead and ask to be a person of interest - from what I understand from the Stetson II debacle -- this… Continue

In search of a past article.

I live in Carroll Plt - where First Wind is in the process of putting up 4 test towers on Bower's Mtn. We go through LURC - we have not found a permit on line for the final project - but from everything we've heard - LURC and First Wind will pretty much breeze through and have the towers up before anyone knows the final permit is done (it sounds like this is what happened with the Stetson I & II project). We are trying to at least get our town up to speed on this and are looking for an… Continue

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
