Major Article on Connecticut Wind NIMBYism

"State plans to buy wind power from Maine have been stalled by insufficient transmission capacity to get it here.......And importantly – you probably won’t be able to see the turbines from land........Also nothing we are talking about here involves wind power in Long Island Sound. The waters of the Sound are controlled by Connecticut and New York state, not the federal government. For multiple reasons, not the least of which is that it’s not windy enough, the Sound is not suited to wind power. There are just about zero odds of ever seeing turbines there".

Long Island Sound not windy enough?

See below and also http://apps2.eere.energy.gov/wind/windexchange/maps_template.asp?st...

The wind over Long Island Sound looks GOOD in the map.

Download the full Connecticut map here:CT_50m_800-%20Copy.jpg

In fact, it looks far better than most places in Maine, including Aroostook County, where EDP Renewables would like to site the state's largest wind project. This company may be owned by the People's Republic of China and one would think that China grabbing those U.S. taxpayer dollars isn't going to reduce our $20 TRILLION debt. See: http://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/edp-renewables-we-need-...

The wind classification color coding on the Ct map also applies to the Maine map.

Do The Write Thing

Let the good everyday people of Connecticut know how they are harming the good people of Maine. They might even be surprised to learn how they are getting ripped off and have been sold out by their so called state representatives who mandate they buy renewable energy.

This is a must read article. Very comprehensive summary of the players and the strategy. What's lacking? A logical rationale for the whole massive undertaking except to make money.

ATTEND IF YOU CAN. This line is to provide capacity that leads to the ISO-NE decision to not purchase power from Aroostook proposed projects.

MEPCO Public Meeting in Corinna, Maine

Saturday, April 1, 2017, 9:00 AM - 12 PM.

Corinna Elementary School

42 Stetson Road

Maine Electric Power Company, Incorporated, is sponsoring a public meeting to present information about a proposed 70-mile transmission line.

MEPCO plans to build a 345-kilovolt transmission line from the Keene Road substation in Chester to a new substation near Route 100 in Pittsfield. The 13 impacted communities are Chester, Mattamiscontis Township, Howland, Lagrange, Orneville Township, Atkinson, Charleston, Corinth, Exeter, Corinna, Saint Albans, Palmyra, and Pittsfield.

In a related matter, Corinna voters tabled a town meeting warrant article on March 9 dealing with a right-of-way sale to MEPCO. MEPCO seeks a 12.60-acre r.o.w. at the 124 acres town-owned landfill. The landfill is capped and annually monitored and tested for water quality by the Maine DEP. The closed landfill is leaching groundwater contaminants on neighboring property. A special town meeting is scheduled for April 12 to vote on the r.o.w. sale.

The MEPCO Project has become very controversial in Corinna. On March 9 MEPCO representatives met with town officials and announced that there is presently no contract or reason to build the transmission line.

MEPCO has known since late October 2016 that ISO New England had rejected MEPCO's request for proposal to provide wind-generated electricity in southern New England. MEPCO did not notify Corinna officials of a nonexistent commodity until March.

At the March 9 private meeting in Corinna, MEPCO informed the town manager and first selectman that the corporation will secure the r.o. w. no matter what, even if there is no transmission line built for ten years into the future.

Furthermore, MEPCO stated that the new line is "intended to be a corridor; a corridor for any conveyance. It will be a corridor."

MEPCO is advertising a public meeting in Corinna, "… On the MEPCO Transmission Line."

MEPCO continues fibbing the public. The MEPCO Corridor has been officially acknowledged by MEPCO.

The East/West Corridor has resurfaced and this is where it has reappeared … the region between Pittsfield and Chester. The 70-mile corridor connects with a planned 80-mile link abutting a transmission line from Chester to Houlton, creating a combined 150-mile corridor for any conveyance.

A primary issue is the individual rights of Corinna townspeople and impacted landowners vs. corporate power.

Be informed. Please attend the public meeting in Corinna on April 1.

STOP THE MEPCO CORRIDOR.

Sincerely,

Everett E. Simpson

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/

Sign up today and lend your voice and presence to the steadily rising tide that will soon sweep the scourge of useless and wretched turbines from our beloved Maine countryside.
