Where is the Maine Department of Tourism on wind turbines???

The head of the department must be hiding under his desk.

Poor sole, doesn't know whether to speak his or her true feelings

for fear of losing their job.

Are they going to promote Maine's ugly wind turbines for tourism???

Perhaps they should tear down that sign that I love to see when

going back to Maine. The new one might read "Welcome To Maine Visit Our

 Ugly Wind Turbines".

I just don't get it. Visitors come to Maine to see and be near Maine's

outstanding scenery, lakes, rivers, and beautiful mountain ranges,

because they don't have anything that compares at home.

Why do we allow elected morons to ruin that???

Let's hope common sense will prevail.

 What's next Mt. Katahdin?????????????????????

Brad Blake's photo shows three turbines, pointing in different directions with the blades set to generate no power. This is a common situation: for Maine's wind farms, 75% if the time the wind is not sufficient to get all of the turbines pointed in the same direction (which is what happens there is sufficient wind) and the blades seem to be set at "neutral", not even trying to make any power.  This is the reality of the "clean renewable power" of wind.

I do think it would be a good idea to take a brochure put out by the Maine Dept of Tourism and alter the pictures to reflect what Maine will look like twenty years from now if we don't stop this madness.

Director of Tourism CarolAnn Ouellette participated in the "Ride the Wind" snowmobile outing put on by wind developers on Stetson Mt and gushed about it.  She'd rather have 500' tall thrashing blinking machines towering over our lakes than just plain old mountains.  Some people are like that.  Unfortunately she's one of them.  The tourists will vote with their dollars and the ones who come to Maine to restore their souls and rejuvenate their jaded spirits in Maine's natural settings will find someplace else to go.

The Dept. of Tourism  must have attended  the same workshop as Fred Michaud of the Dep. Of Transportation.

When asked about the effects the Roxbury windmills would have on tourism. He said it would be a draw to tourists, especially if we were to push for interpretive signs and the Scenic Byway.

They must have been taught the art of "lying for federal dollars 101".

looks like the snake oil has been laced with Koolaide.

This is an iconic shot of wind turbines on northern end of Rollins Mt. with Mt. Katahdin in the background. May 2011. (Brad Blake)

And now they are moving in much closer to the mountain. We just all heard about MEDWAY, where most people turn off I-95 for Katahdin.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
