Excerpted from the Maine Tourism Association's recent testimony on LD 901 An Act To Amend the Laws Governing the Determination of a Wind Energy Development's Effect on the Scenic Character of Maine's Special Places:
This testimony also speaks to the economic importance of tourism.
The reality of course is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not a single square inch of Vacationland should ever have been fast tracked for out of place and out of scale industrial wind factories and their massive new transmission lines. The state's core essence is its beauty and tranquility. It should not be trashed for this useless power source, particularly when DOE data show that electricity generation accounts for only 8.9% of Maine's emissions and wind can only displace a tiny fraction of the 8.9%.
