-The meeting is the second of two DEP is hosting to inform the public and invite comment on an 18-turbine wind farm being proposed in Hancock County by First Wind-

AURORA – The Maine Department of Environmental Protection will host a public meeting on Thursday, June 6 to get feedback on its draft analysis regarding an 18-turbine wind farm proposed in Hancock County.

The meeting on First Wind’s Hancock Wind proposal will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Airline Community School at 26 Great Pond Road in Aurora. Several DEP representatives will attend, including Commissioner Patricia Aho, project manager Maria Eggett, as well as DEP’s noise and visual consultants involved with the agency’s review of the project’s Site Law and Natural Resources Protection Act permit applications.

While this is the second public meeting on the project, it’s the second time the DEP has held two public meetings on an application to the agency as part of an internal review process established by Commissioner Aho in 2011 that requires two public meetings be held on all proposed grid scale wind power projects in Maine.

Developed to ensure adequate opportunity for public comment and a transparent, inclusive review of often controversial wind power projects, the new process also requires the presence of the DEP’s Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner at that second meeting to hear the public’s comments on DEP’s draft analysis, which for the Hancock proposal is available at http://www.maine.gov/dep/land/sitelaw/selected-developments/index.html

DEP will take the comments voiced at the second public meeting into consideration as its review moves forward before a final decision is issued this summer.

First Wind is proposing to begin construction this year on the 54-megawatt wind power generation facility on Schoppe Ridge in T22 MD and an unnamed ridge in T16 MD with an operations and maintenance building in Aurora. In addition to the 512-foot tall turbines, the project includes up to five 344-foot meteorological towers.

The power generated would flow to an expanded substation at the company’s nearby 19-turbine Bull Hill Wind Project.

No money for first wind to build rollins wind farm either. This series of articles shows that First Wind had to wait for more govt. hand outs .

http://www.lincolnmainewind.com/

First Wind 's SEC report had a clause , when they tried to sell stock on the open market, Canadians had to consult a lawyer before buying.Co founder in Silican Mafia and indicted.

Tip Maine state govt. Lie down with dogs , get up with fleas. How are you going to continue to explain local town budget shortfalls? Allowing  rogue corporations into the state does not equate to good goverment.

One of the comments in the article below.

"I have heard that First Wind has placed Stetson Mt project for sale through Credit Suisse. Is there any truth to this statement?"

So how did First Wind get approved for Stetson II? Mat Kearn was quoted in BDN that they had no money and if was eventually the stimulus bill which paid for construction. That was after approval, however. Was this part of Baldaci's expediting? No money , fine with us? We will still approve your projects.

And Lincoln News is finally reporting 800,000 missing from the original 1.2 million in the Lincoln budget was from TIF miscalculations.( Like in Hawaii when First Wind didn't pay taxes for 3 years because they didn't get a bill. )After the town manager quit, the new town manager went to the press first after his audit (don't know if he was fired or quit but had to leave his office very quickly..and now the treasurer quit.

And the head of the DEP who I thought was fired, actually quit.(He found Vilylhaven wind farm out of compliance with noise ordinance) But I do think there is a correlation with all the resignings.

This link is so old that Audabon thought wind farms would harm birds...the title stated Credit Suisse was putting Stetson I up for sale. No mention that I could find of that data in the article.

Thank you Darren for your efforts and time spent researching.

If Bowers Mt windfarm is approved in Aug., hopefully suing First Wind will become reality. They have to obey no laws or have an upstanding reputation to do business in Maine. The playing field is not level for our citizens. Questions are not answered in the DEP hearings. If our concerns are not addressed by hearings..what recourse is there?

I plan on being in attendance at this meeting with a host of questions for the DEP as it relates to First Wind.  I welcome any other member who wishes to attend.  I will do my best to try and stop this project.  I have read the site review (all 85 pages) a few times and there are serious questions about the visual impact on 9 State of Maine Scenic Resources and 1 Coastal Resource, which happens to be Tunk Mountain which is part of the Acadia National Park hiking trails.

Wish me luck.

Darren

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
