Later Today the Maine Legislature’s Committee on Energy & Utilities could be asked to vote for a disaster

LD 1513 seeks to undo a very wise Maine law that prohibits cozy business dealings between utilities (like CMP and Emera Maine) and generation companies (like SunEdison and Iberdrola Renewablles). The purpose of the existing law is to prevent generation and distribution companies from conspiring to financially exploit consumers like you.

Industry spokesman: wind companies losing interest in Maine

Opponents of building giant wind turbines in Maine’s remote wilderness are deploying effective tactics that have chased wind capital out of the state, according to Jeremy Payne, executive director of the Maine Renewable Energy Association.....Recently, however, dozens of opt-out petitions have been turned in to state officials, and Payne conceded this has made the state far less attractive to wind developers.....“This news has electrified wind opponents like nothing else has".......The state is a well-known vacation destination for skiers, boaters, hunters, hikers, fishing enthusiasts and people seeking solitude, away from more urban and industrialized areas.......

One of the purposes of the current statute is to prevent the transmission line owners from charging excessive fees to competing generation whether they are wind, solar, net meter home owners or biomass etc. LD 1513 serves to allow these transmission line owners once again generate through their affiliate (Sister / Parent) companies. This could once again lead to giving preferential rates for use of these lines to the affiliate generation companies, while charging higher use rates to all others. Something that our current statute eliminated for the most part and has worked well. Currently CMP may generate....... so can Emera Maine....... however the current statute prevents them from generating in their own (monopoly) areas where they use their own lines, causing them to have to pay a fair rate to a different transmission owner. ( 2 ? ) With two projects in the works for more transmission capacity, and the recent events surrounding ENRON II it is not unreasonable to presume that LD 1513 is to pave the way for more Wind / Solar expansion in Maine. The CMP proposed North Line between two existing ROW's travels to no place of current need, but holds the potential of serving a vast number of Wind projects in Maine's Northwest mountains near Coburn Gore, with a future (so it seems) expansion later into Canada.

The Presidential election this year looks to be shaping up around the theme of corruption - the game being rigged - our elected professional politician officials selling out the masses to line their piggish pockets. There is no question - we have been betrayed. The following link provides a quick glance at what has been happening in Maine. This is likely just the tip of the iceberg. Would any of this qualify as corruption, conflict of interest or appearance of conflict of interest?

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
