Yaroslav Hunka is the man's name. And during the Second World War, he joined a Nazi SS battalion in Ukraine, called the 4th Waffen SS Division Galicia. That battalion was part of Hitler’s “Final Solution” — the extermination of Europe’s Jews. Hunka was never charged with a war crime. He was one of 2,000 SS officers who sneaked into Canada by hiding their past, claiming to be from the "First Division Ukrainian National Army" — a fake name to avoid any tough questions. Hunka led a low-key life, like many other Nazis who moved to Canada or South America. Until Justin Trudeau’s Liberals invited him to attend Parliament on Friday as an honoured guest for the speech of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president. The Liberal Speaker of the House introduced Hunka to the Parliament, heaping praise on him for his wartime exploits, but never mentioning that he was a Nazi SS officer. What an atrocious moment, beamed out to the whole world on TV.
