IT ISN'T FARMING. IT'S AN EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRY.

The thing about Wind Farming: IT ISN'T FARMING.
This is an extractive industry. A destabilizing one, at that.

You may think: 'But the wind is..free! Nature doesn't need all that energy! It is infinite!' You are wrong. Extracting energy from an ecosystem is as damaging as extracting its solid matter. If you disagree, you need to review and factor into your thinking, the Laws of Thermodynamics:

Law # 1. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only change form. Windpower is not farmed. It is wind energy being extracted from a natural environment. It is not grown and harvested as if there were baby wind gods being raised in windfarms.

If you imagine that there is so much wind "out there", that extracting some of its energy can't possibly have any noticeable effect, then it is time to ponder the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics:

Law # 2. Energy systems tend to to increase their entropy rather than decrease it. In the case of wind, removing energy from a system will slow that system down and will disorganize it. The conditions become different from the surrounding un-windmilled airshed & water column; this results in "chaotic excursions" of the water column, due to the vanished wind-forcing that should've been coming in at the sea surface by the now-extracted wind energy.

Law #3 As a system approaches absolute zero, its processes cease and the entropy of the system approaches a minimum value. In the case of ocean wind extraction, the longer the wind is extracted, the more disorganized and weakened the local oceanic system becomes, first at the sea surface, and then through the water column. If wind extractors improbably took all the wind from the sea surface, then all wind-powered water processes would cease.

Of course they won't. But even some disorganization of the water processes can spawn a greater Chaos, beyond the immediate windfarm footprint. Why? Because similar localized chaotic "excursions" are being unleashed in ocean waters all around our planet. Go ahead: google offshore wind billion. What you'll see is that the number of gigawatts of wind energy being extracted from the seven seas increases daily, and is proposed to grow exponentially.

Nobody should imagine that no matter how many terawatts we extract from them, Terra's ocean winds can both power oceanic natural processes AND power human civilization, with no impact to the former. Messing with Mother Nature on such landscape scales historically has had unpleasant consequences. Let's take stock of what we're doing with wind extraction before we rush headlong into embracing oceanic chaos.

I think they know but don't care, as long as there are subsidies to feed on bucks to be made. We need to prepare a petition to the feds to carry out an Environmental Impact Study about the energy system nstability that windmill sprawl could have on the Gulf of Maine's oceanic meteorology and hydrology.

We should do this before the University of Maine gets too deep into spending its federal $ubsidy money. So when and if it spends that money putting something out in the EEZ, it'll have been minimized as completely as possible its geographic area of chaotic impact.

courts can get into this kinda stuff if the petition is denied

I wonder whether the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, the Ocean Energy Task Force and Einstein Baldacci have given this any thought.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
