ISO New England Gets Request For Planned Ocean Wind Grid

ISO New England is an independent nonprofit regional electric transmission organization serving six New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
.
ISO coordinates and operates the region's electric grid on a daily basis and also designs, and runs wholesale electricity.  They make all the decisions on the region’s power grid.
.
On September 1, 2022, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont (New England states) issued a transmission RFI seeking comments on coordinated transmission.
.
Among the 40 sets of comments from diverse stakeholders, there was general consensus on the urgent need for "planned and coordinated transmission" in New England to maximize customer savings and minimize impacts to the environment and communities.
.
Right now ocean wind contractors are trying to get to the major onshore electric substations through residential communities with cables that have more output than the Pilgrim nuclear plant and brand new substations as large as six acres.
.
No one wants a 345,000-volt cable at 800 megawatts buried out in front of their home. There is resistance to these cable landings in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
.
The alternative is a "planned cable route" through the ocean. This provides submarine cables to large cities where the power will be used via the ocean.
.
The planned approach saves money, and cable runs, and provides future capacity.
.
In 2020 the Brattle Group did a study of an unplanned cable project and a planned ocean cable project.
.
The Brattle Study cautions that "unless these planning efforts are started now, more attractive near-term transmission solutions will not be identified and the most effective long-term grid development pathways may be foreclosed.”
.
Ocean wind contractors are asking ISO New England to use the planned approach and avoid residential communities.

CRASS, GREEDY, SUBSIDY-CHASING BY ALREADY RICH PEOPLE, AND SCREWING ALL OTHERS TO SAVE THE WORLD.

In the North Sea, with thousands of wind turbines, the population of diving fishing birds has decreased 94% because, the fishes they eat have disappeared.

On the East Coast whales are beaching themselves, and being struck by ships, because they have lost their ability to navigate underwater.

In Maine, lobsters are deformed, because of presence of under water electric cables, that damage their genetic make- up.

If birds are killed by the millions by being near the gigantic rotors of on land wind turbines, that would also happens with sea birds

ISO-NE must know by now that the states are bringing about the demise of their operations, and will blame the ISO once the first blackout occurs.

ISO-NE must man up and reject these plans for the sake of their own survival.

Enough woke already.

Wow, we are talking at least $1 BILLION of planned undersea cabling, plus on-land grid augmentation/expansion, to accommodate future wind turbine projects that presently will not be financed by banks, etc., unless negotiated rates of about 8 c/kWh are increased by at least 3.5 c/kWh, because of increased interest rates, increased inflation, increased energy costs, supply chain shortages and interruptions, increased labor costs, and increased rare metal costs.

The additional costs will be foisted onto ratepayers, taxpayers, and added to government debt, to keep up the appearance to the naive, gullible people that wind is so “competitive”

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
