"Environment Massachusetts" : 100% Renewable Energy Bill Sends a Clear Message to President Trump

Environment Massachusetts says the bill is designed to complement and strengthen the Global Warming Solutions Act, legislation passed in 2008 that requires the state to reduce its carbon emissions by at least 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.......Last year, Gov. Charlie Baker signed into law H.4568, An Act Relative to Energy Diversity, which requires Massachusetts to generate a whopping 1.6 GW of electricity from offshore wind over the next 10 years. In addition, the bill requires utilities to competitively solicit and contract for approximately 1.2 GW of clean energy generation: hydropower; onshore wind and solar supported by hydropower; or stand-alone onshore wind, solar or other Class I renewable resources.

PPH - Bill would commit Mass to obtaining 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources

The bill would require the state to achieve total renewable electricity generation by 2035 and phase out fossil fuels across all sectors, including heating and transportation, by 2050.

Penny, it also decries the wisdom of solar (grid scale).

I love your reply Paula.  I think you are right, Mike White has finally realized that proclamations for the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts are so ridiculously absurd that they are going to be the last nail in the coffin of the Green Industry.  They had a good run for eight years but they have to be buried NOW! We can't allow them to rejuvenate or even linger.  Now is our time.

They should all watch this very short but revealing video of what's going on in Europe with their renewable energy debacle:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c7Y37sytqU

One of those southern NE states (I believe Mass. maybe wrong.) does not view Biomass as a renewable in their portfolio. Thus they rely on those states that do utilize Biomass (tree in specific) burning for renewable energy. Maine is one of those states that accepted the burning of our Waste Wood, (to clean up the forest floor in the beginning) which has escalated to direct Forest to Fire mentality.

Comment by Jim Wiegand on January 24, 2017 at 7:04pm

Burning trees (Biomass) is considered renewable. Rigging renewable energy data is also acceptable. Start asking those idiots how all that fits in with these plans.

When the lawmakers of Mass. consider this bill, they may want to think about how much federal energy money comes to them from Washington D C  and what the loss of it might mean to their constituents.

I personally do not see much sense in calculating  the loss of  CO2  do to losss of  Timber being cleared for Power lines- AS I See at least 12-18  DOUBLE Loads of Pulp/Saw Logs pass by my house every day  from FORESTS that are being CUT -OFF in MAINE- EVERY DAY !! TIMBER cutting in the State of Maine is  OUT of CONTROL  and by the end of thnis DECADE there wont be a single patch of woods bigger than postage stamp left! Lets get back to the Subject- That's UNCONTROLLED wind Power development- The so-Called  "EXPEDITED" WIND Power Industry in the so-Called" WIND-Power Expedited ZONE" - is Nothing more than a GIFT  to The "RENEWABLE ENERGY" - BY  INDUSTRY  of this Country by the MAINE STATE LEGISLATURE  as there are many in the MAINE STATE LEGISLATURE that have a VESTED Interest  in  "RENEWABLE" Energy development  Not only in MAINE -but every state in NEW-ENGLAND !! I CFALL THEM  "LAND -RAPERS"  because that's what they are doing to the BEAUTIFULL STATE of MAINE !!BAck in 2008   they saw a opportunity  to get RICH  beyond their wildest  imaginations- and they were in a position to SUBVERT  and TWIST their authority in the Legislature to take action to Produce the Laws  that are in place today to MAKE THEM RICH- and u know something- they stand to make 100's of millions of dollars-- aybe billons - ALL paid by the RATE payers and the TAX-PAYERS both in State and Nationally  at the same time they can get rich by selling a Product  and they can charge what ever they want for it !!

MERRY CHRISTMAS  EVERY-One !!

Hey, not even Mike whatshizname put in a comment in favor of this absurdity. Guess he doesn't have any financial interest in Mass? Or he's still down in DC resting from his Saturday Women's March.

A mandate is ultimately a government order at gunpoint to buy something. It's wrong for Obamacare and it's wrong for electricity. It is arguably unconstitutional. Therefore, is there a way for the state of Maine to forbid any electricity generated in Maine to be sold to persons wrongfully mandated to buy something on the grounds that if we believe it to be unlawful, not taking steps to prevent Maine's participation would be unlawful by the state of Maine? We should take all steps to make sure the state of Maine does not become a location where aiding and abetting the unlawful practice is allowed to take place. Now that there's a new sheriff in town in Washington, D.C., is there any way where the Federal government can bar interstate participation in satisfying an unlawfully mandated electricity need/ If the ratepayers in Mass are too asleep (or kept in the dark by the state's media) to protect themselves, a Federal ruling, if possible, could cause them to have no place out of state to buy the electricity, forced upon them at gunpoint.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
