For this latest propaganda piece, see: Northern Maine wind power project wins PUC approval
This piece of disgraceful garbage shill reporting is filled with untruths and half truths and is nothing but the compromised media using its printing presses in an attempt to grease the skids for the rape of northern Maine by an industry built on subsidies, misled ratepayers and lies. The single italicized passage below speaks of an economy largely powered by renewable energy. How the hell does that happen when there is no way to store the electricity produced by wind and solar at grid scale such that electricity comes on at the flick of a switch? It doesn't and thus the notion of an economy largely powered by renewable energy is nothing but shameful untrue propaganda.
The passage then describes northern Maine's wind power resources as robust.
The vote represents a significant milestone in the region’s evolving journey toward an electrified economy powered largely by renewable energy. Aroostook County lacks a connection to New England’s electric grid, and building a large new transmission line to unlock northern Maine’s robust wind power resources has so far been too expensive.
In fact, the winds of Aroostook County are anything but robust.
The wind speeds in the parts of the county where development is planned have very average wind speed and extemely below places like the Great Plains or, closer to home, coastal Massachusetts. This relative disparity between wind speeds across the U.S. becomes more readily apparent when looking at the following map, based on 80 meter height.

Perhaps this relatively poorer wind in Maine explains why very, very often, one drives by wind turbines in Maine and notices that they are not turning. Ask yourself, how often do you find yourself saying, "wow, it's really windy today"? RARELY. In our modern society where people expect the lights to come on at the flick of a switch, wind power is obviously a wholly unreliable source due to its intermittent nature. Such an electricity source can only be depended on if its electricity production can be stored. Well, that doesn't happen because GRID-SCALE electricity storage does not exist and will not exist for a very, very long time if at all. This feckless feel good power source is frankly a confidence game which preys on people's ignorance, carefully cultivated by our propagandist media, "environmental" groups, universities, international organizations such as the U.N. and a number of others. The taxpayer and ratepayer get the bill (which is sky high) and Wall Street and other insider grow absurdly rich. Communities are torn apart, the natural environment disgracefully scarred, birds and bats slaughtered and dependable power sources run out of business. The energy disaster we are seeing in Europe is but a coming attraction for our future if the citizenry does not wake up and call BULLSHIT on wind and all its boosters.
THe reason and only reason that beloved Aroostook has been targeted is that the lying wind industry and the legislators and regulators in their pockets believe they can get away with it. With the media constantly paving the way with disgraceful propaganda, they feel their chances are good. If only the media told the truth and published the other side of the story. But they don't.

Surprise, surprise. The AP (government controlled) is in on the propaganda.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
