Assessing recent warming using instrumentally homogeneous sea surface temperature records
Boy! Here is a challenging article for you to read. I read it, with some difficulty, and still don't know exactly what it says. It tells about four different ways they take sea water temperatures and the variations they have. In the past most of the sea water temps were taken by ships using buckets, or water taken through water intakes in a kind of random sampling method. In the last ten years or so, floating, drifting buoys have been used, and now also satellites have been added. There are some neat graphs showing the temp has been going down since 2000, but it seems they had to adjust the formulas to account for that decline, because the changes in the measurement methods made this error. The only thing is, all the methods showed the same decline. I am pretty scientific, but maybe there is someone out there that can read this and tell me I am wrong. Looks to me like it's kind of like all the data we get from IPCC.

Wow, okay, not the sort of thing to read before morning coffee but considering the active ongoing geothermal activity, the ocean currents, ships hulls, floating and stationary buoys and so forth, it seems this data is wide open to interpretation along with land based data. I listen to the NOAA forecast on my weather radio and it's telling me that the temperature in Fort Kent is usually at least five degrees higher than the thermometer reads outside my window. This is because all the met data is being collected in town and the heat island effect in the river valley is not being accounted for.
