A while back, our local paper The Record Searchlight, was bought out by USA Today. A few days before this Dec 28 story hit, the author called me and we talked about this newly planned wind energy project. The call lasted for about 20 minutes. I also sent him 3 emails with attachments and proof at specific links, of this industry's research rigging. There were no follow-up questions from Arthur Damon, emails or that this story would even be posted. I found out about the story yesterday.

Read this story and pay attention to the way this propaganda piece was orchestrated. I got in one inaccurate generic sentence, while this fraudulent industry was allowed to spread their contrived lies by omission.

The turbines proposed for property near Burney would be more in number and taller than the 44 currently on nearby Hatchet Ridge.

"Jim Wiegand of Redding said he thinks the wind turbines will be bad for birds because they will be killed by the turbine blades."
This statement is not a quote. It is also not even close to what I think or told this reporter. Below is a summary of our phone call conversation……………..

I explained to Arthur Damon how this industry rigs their reported
This statement is not even close to what I told this reporter or what I think. Below is a summary of phone call conversation I had with Arthur Damon in the days before this story was printed…energy outputs and that this industry in reality has been a complete failure for decades. I told him about our rapidly disappearing golden eagles caused wind energy developments, the coming extinction of species from turbines and the federal rigging of population surveys. I told him about the industry's research rigging, with the blessing of the Interior Department, of mortality studies that are hiding more than 95% of turbine kills., I told him about the secret wind tech interview I had and the unreported golden eagle turbine kills at the wind farm he was working at. I told him about the arrangement with the Interior department arrangement, that does not require the wind industry to report kills of special status species like eagles. I told him of the ongoing collusion with the wind industry and Interior Department. I even told him I had evidence that would show that the mortality studies claimed to have been conducted at the seed project Hatchet Ridge, were NEVER done as reported. In other words, fabricated. I also added that and specifically told him, I had been withholding this evidence so I could use use it to at the right time ambush this crooked industry. Hopefully at a congressional hearing.

Lastly and most importantly I told him that even though I am a Wildlife Biologist, I never wanted to work for a corporation or government agency because one of the requirements to be one in this day,  is that you must be a criminal. They don't teach you that in college,  but for one of these jobs you must lie by omission.  This statement made him pause. Maybe because he was working under the similar circumstances.                                                                                                                                                                                        Giving the last word and multiple statements to a deceptive industry, that has not conducted a single scientific turbine mortality study for over 3 decades, is a common media trick.

What is an ignorant public to believe about wind energy when all they have to read is an onslaught of contrived stories like this one?  Thank goodness for the internet.

The internet is a great tool for those who do their homework, but most people don't bother to research wind energy.  Out of sight, out of mind.  If it isn't in your backyard, what's going to make you question the lobbyist/media propaganda?

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
