ISO-NE CEO Speaks About The Future of New England Electricity

ISO-NE CEO Gordon van Welie comments of July 28,2022
"Wind, solar and natural gas are not stable".
"We (ISO-NE) need to get off natural gas"
"We (ISO-NE) used 80 million gallons of oil last winter"
"We need to spend more money on transmission"
"Reducing our dependence on fossil fuels......... accessing balancing energy supplies from neighboring regions, like Hydro-Quebec"
"WE NEED A PLAN!"

If it were not for natural gas, which provided 66% of all the load onto the NE grid at 7 AM this morning, according to the ISO-NE dashboard, New England would be in deep DOO DOO

WIND AND SOLAR COULD NOT EXIST ON THE GRID WITHOUT THE BALANCING BY THE NEW ENGLAND  NATURAL GAS PLANTS

ANY SIGNIFICANT BALANCING BY HYDRO PLANTS IN QUEBEC WOULD TAKE AT LEAST A DECADE TO IMPLEMENT AT A COST OF MANY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, according to ISO-NE studies and independent studies.

What if there is another ICE STORM in QUEBEC, with transmission lines and towers tumbling to the ground?

Here is some data from the ISO-NE Daily Dashboard

The dashboard shows the:

System Load Graph, real-time load, MW, on an hour-by-hour basis. Hovering shows the data.

If you click on the rectangle, you get the spreadsheet showing the contribution, MW, by source, on a minute-by-minute basis

If you click on the date, type in a different date, you get the spreadsheet for that date.

Spreadsheets can be obtained for any date of 2022, or any prior year. See URL

Natural gas 66%. If no natural gas, NE would be where Germany, etc., is to-day.

Nuclear 25%

Renewables 7%, of which:

Wind 40% of 7% = 2.8% after 15 years of subsidies

Refuse burning 35% of 7% = 2.45%, which was pre-existing

Tree burning 18% of 7% = 1.26%, which was pre-existing

Solar 5% of 7% = 0.35%, after 15 years of subsidies

Here are some facts regarding RE in Europe.

The EU bureaucrats in Brussels use global warming to gain more relevance and power.

Everyone dancing the bureaucrats tune.

Well, that dance is over FOREVER, due to EU sanctions.

Germany approved many silly “climate progress” bills, as part of its ENERGIEWENDE, and got itself in deep DOO-DOO as a result.

German wind and solar systems produced DIDDLYSQUAT, when the sun was not shining, and the wind was not blowing, in the Spring of 2022

As a result, Germany used a lot of Russian gas, which it should have been putting in storage, but did not.

It will be up the creek big-time this winter.

Now, Germans are taking cold showers, because hot water has been shut off in apartment buildings

Germany imposed sanctions to cut Russian oil, gas and coal , which is equivalent to economic suicide.
Germany had its first monthly trade deficit in 40 years!!, plus 8.7% inflation, which is getting even higher

Norway tried to help out with its hydro plants, but it turned out it should not have, because now its reservoirs are too low due to less snow melt, and due to a drought in West Europe. How do you fix stupid?

Household electricity prices have been administratively increased to very high levels, says my brother-in- law, to reduce consumption and save reservoir water.

Ukraine will run out of soldiers before Russia will.

Remember, the industrial base is mostly in the East, now increasingly controlled by Russia.

Europe and the US, sending weapons to Ukraine to fight a NATO proxy war to the last Ukrainian, have no spare one $TRILLION to put Ukraine back together again, and neither does Russia.

ISO-NE CEO Gordon van Welie IS AN IDIOT.

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
